So, I checked out the first season of KR Amazons BD episodes on a whim and, oh boy.......that was boringly underwhelming.
The overall execution is just tepid. There are too many padding aka. moments where so little happen in terms of story progression + characters standing or sitting around in contemplation. Some silent moment or long-panning shots are okay to build mood, but what Amazons did is padding which leads to time-wasting (even the dialogues are plagued with some dead space with zero impact). The fights are goddamn lame. The gore that was present in the old Amazon series is not really here. The story is uninspired and they take things too seriously with no glimpse of self awareness (unlike The First & The Next) and any attempt for humor just fell flat. What the hell happened to this series? Was this made with a very limited budget or something? The suits and some of the performances are pretty much the only good things I can recall in this first season. This is like watching an inferior version of Shin Kamen Rider or 555. Someone please tell me that the Second Season is a lot better than this......

I'm disappointed in Pallad. His incredible fear of dying and hypocritical "I wasn't created just to die" mentality. How about showing some empathy for those who felt that same fear because of him?
Due to my natural empathy I felt sorry for him and that pisses me off because he is not someone who deserves being felt sorry for. |

His fear of dying is most likely rooted in Emu's own childhood trauma. The visuals showing both of them underwater certainly imply that, and we've been shown in this episode Emu had already been infected when he had his accident. It's even the cause of it.
That makes his fear understandable to me. Regarding his mentality, he was created just to be toyed with by humans, so I understand his anger and why he rebels against that fate. He's definitely an asshole for killing innocent humans, but on the other hand, he cares about his fellow bugsters. He isn't all bad.

Being selective about who he shows his "kindness" to lands him squarely into my "all bad" department.
I mean, remember, he's not above killing other bugsters if it falls within the confines of a game's rules. |

A save function... that is such a simple yet smart way to counter the reset. It seems this episode is where the story branches off into a normal ending (the series) and a true ending (the movie).
