Whisper of the Heart is probably my favorite.

Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (better named Rurouni Kenshin - Tsuiokuhen) isn't a movie... it's a four episode OVA... else I'd name it my favorite.

Patlabor 2. Sucker for a good political thriller. Substance first!

If Advent Children is counted as anime, Id have to go for that one.
I just love the FF7 game and can't believe they managed to create a film almost as great as.

Granted, it's not really an anime, but it's the best movie I've seen and it beats all the other anime movies ^^

I have to agree w/u in the fact that this is an excellent movie, however, for those who never played the game... well, they won't be able to fully understand it. And I'm not talking only about the characters and plot, it's the music, the locations... everything. If I'm to think about something strictly anime... for the best I'll have to go with grave of the fireflies... it's not my favorite, but it's the best I've seen. My favorite would be a tie between ghost in the shell and akira.

Talk about a Hayao Miyazaki fan ... I liked Nausicaa more than Spirited Away.

Between Ah! My Goddess, End of Evangelion, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Green Legend Ran, and Gall Force: Eternal Story.

I'm not much of a movie fan, but one of those five.

Princess Mononoke, that i`ve watched yesterday.
Howl`s Moving Castle is even greater (it is similar in some cases with Mononoke)
Uninhabited Planet Survive - amazing serial, and i don`t care that it`s "for kids"
Legend of Windaria - i saw it 13 years ago. Great fantasy.

I think it's Ocean Waves (Umi ga Kikoeru or I Can Hear the Sea), with Cowboy Bebop the Movie at a close second.

It's no surprise to see Miyazaki come up so often, but am I the only one who thinks Porco Rosso is the best movie he's done?

Well, different strokes for different folks.

But I would say for me Porco Rosso is my favourite Miyazaki as well.

*Kumo no Muko, Yakusoku no basho (or called "The place promised in our early days" 雲のむこう、約束の場所) 2004
*spirt away (千と千尋の神隠し) 2001
*Princess Mononoke(もののけ姫) 1997
*Pom Poko(平成狸合戦ぽんぽこ) 1994
*Porco Rosso(紅の豚) 1992
*Grave of the Fireflies(火垂るの墓) (1 of my favorite but i won't rewatch it too sad) 1988
*Perfect Blue(パーフエクト ブルー) 1997
*Laputa: Castle in the Sky(天空の城ラピュタ) 1986
*Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind(風の谷のナウシカ) 1984
*My Neighbor Totoro(となりのトトロ) 1988
(not by order, because they r all my favorite)

as u see most my favor itemovies are old school mainly 80s to 97.... the only recent one is "Kumo no Muko, Yakusoku no basho" which is also two years old, because i really don't see any really good ones in this few years.(Howl no Ugoku Shiro is pretty good but not good enough for me) (ps. looking forward for "gedo senki"(Tales from Earthsea)(ゲド戦記) which directed by Goro Miyazaki, son of Hayao Miyazaki)
