Any idea why they are building up a romance subplot between Isara and Lamar?

If the intention was to do a complete re-telling of the story anime-wise 100% then you might as well just stick with the game.

l'm not asking for them to stick to a 100% with the game's storyline but l'm sorry there are some damn changes that shouldn't be made and cordelia's is a huge one.

Well, we had our Nice Hat in the game. Let the hat retire in peace.

'Shouldn't be made' or 'I don't like the changes?' If the former, could you please back up why these changes shouldn't be made?

The way the game revealed it was most definitely a shock.

Spoiler for Cordelia:

I actually started this series with the anime, I liked it quite a bit and it was one of the reasons I wanted to get the game. Managed to pass the point the anime was at pretty quickly and have since beaten the game, and I kinda find myself having a mixed opinion of the anime now.

Spoiler for long post and spoilers for pretty much everything:

To me, it feels like they've pretty much jumped the rails and smashed them beyond repair. Even if they explain away the whole hair color thing, there's still far too many changes (particularly Alicia's personality shift, which I personally despise) for it to resemble the game again.

Not that I don't understand changing things. After all, when you get down to it, Valkyria Chronicles doesn't have a huge amount of plot. You have to add and change things somewhere, particularly if you want to keep dramatic tension about Welkin and Alicia ending up together (it's obvious even at the start of the game, not that that really matters; it wasn't the focus, after all). I just object to the way that they're doing it. Personally, I think the manga is doing a great job of reinterpeting the game, and gives me what I really wanted out of VC in other media: expansion on the other characters.

Probably the most apparent example of this is...
Spoiler for VC Manga Volume 2:

tl;dr : The manga is doing a better job with its changes.

Hats, you should remember that the anime is based on the MANGA, not on the GAME.

Man, I wish people would realize that already...

You can say that until you're blue in the face but it doesn't change the fact it's a shit adaptation.

I'm actually hoping that the anime would be somewhat more grim. In this aspect, the manga has delivered, so far.

Okay. So the anime does a bad job of adapting the manga, instead of a bad job of adapting the game.

That still doesn't make it a good adaptation.

*snipes Lord of Hats* ...Jerk...

I like how the anime has taken an original direction, just so you know. If it were a complete copy of either the game or manga's storyline, it'd be a bore. Being original is what's making me watch this.

I'm sure it'll still keep the essentials, if somewhat tweaked.

Fair enough. I like the manga for the same reason and given what I've seen from the raw of Volume 2, it's jumping the rails just as much (maybe even moreso, in some ways). Really, I guess my problem is how they mixed up character personalities.

Well, that and Isara looking like a fish, but that one isn't the writers fault.

You've gotta wonder, if they do kill off Isara, who's going to control the Edelweiss? The character that does in the game hasn't made his appearance at all in the anime, so he probably won't appear at all.

Still, i can imagine all our reactions if they don't kill her off. Oh boy.

Ramal. He doesn't seem to have any technical knowledge but I can see them having him figure it out through sheer motivation to avenge her or whatever. I really really hope this doesn't happen.
