Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen - Comparison between the game and the anime

The purpose of this thread is be able to freely compare the original game and the anime adaptation to understand what was done differently and the arguable merits/demerits of the various approaches.

As this is a game discussion thread, please do keep in mind that there will be spoilers, but future content beyond what was animated should not be discussed in this thread. Please only discuss material that has been animated to this point.

Playing the game right now. I'm just at the part where they arrive at the capital and get settled in at the inn. SO far, about half a dozen differences stand out.

-First, the very first scene of the game is of Haku being taken care of by Kuon in her tent. He shortly falls asleep, and when he wakes up, he walk out of the tent, and being disoriented, gets lost, what follows is pretty much as seen in the first episode.

-As Haku and Kuon make their way to the village, they don't just hear wolves, they fight a bunch of them. Haku tries to look cool with a big branch, ends up getting bitten. Village stuff is pretty much copy paste from game to show.

-When Haku first meets Rurutie and Kocopo, he doesn't get confused as in the show, but he ends up getting chased around by the big bird, to Rurutie's dismay, who can do little to help Haku's predicament. Kuon ends up saving him from the mound of fluff.

-Haku first meets the twins (wearing their burka like veils) in the mountain village.

-As they set out for the capital, Haku ends up seeing much of Kuonss skin (I'd say less than in the anime equivalent) when she's taking a bath inside their tent (just her, Rurutie is somewhere else) and the drape she used to give herself some privacy falls out. Not too sure on specifics, but Haku blows his chance for a smooth and painless retreat (he exits the tent, and goes back in, seemingly to look at her again) and ends up feeling pain.

-After that, the fight with the bandits while getting to the capital. We don't actually get to see the fight in the bandit's lair, and Kokopo is very much a beast, and there's an actual fight between Haku's party and the bandits.

-When the party reaches the capital and gets introduced to the INN, Kuon's introduction to the baths plays similarly to the anime, and she ends up stripping and jumping int the water all in one go.... except that in the game, she does so in the presence of Haku and Ukon (who was giving them a tour of the place), and from the looks of it, she also forcibly strips Rurutie so that she can take a bath with her.... Yeah, that girl be crazy. She snaps out of it, eventually.

That's it so far.

To add on to it:

- The meeting with Atui was just a simple 'I don't know the way to the White Inn, can you give me directions?' which Haku simply took her there and said he was staying there as well. Without the whole love tour of the capital bit.

- The meeting with Kiuru was when he came with a group of people from the other territories bringing gifts for the princess. (He's a prince like Rurutie and Atui but with lower status as he's from a countryside territory) They meet on the streets instead of wearing a mask and chasing down people.

- Rurutie, Atui and Kiuru all arrive at the capital for the same reason, to bring gifts for the princess' ceremony (where she comes out to address the people) and also to stay and learn in the capital for a few years.

- The twins pop up here and there covered in black veils throughout until they took it off during the gift presentation.

- The kidnapping of the princess did not include Haku acting as a thief and fighting Oshutoru. The punishment for Nosuri wasn't supposed to be so lightly brushed off. It was a big matter to kidnap the princess. So Haku schemed to grab the bandit head(the same one from the goods escorting near the start) to be a scapegoat. They went to the lair and put them to sleep and tied up the chief, dressed him in Nosuri's clothes and shipped him off as the culprit.

- Haku and Rurutie actually came up with new sweets inventions in the kitchen and it spread out to the capital. Munechika drops by more occasionally with Anju to eat the snacks.

- In the war with the Uzuurusha, all the powers of the 4 masks were revealed. Haku actually didn't know they were heading to the battlefield, Atui just said she had somewhere she wanted to go. Haku was more inclined to fight in the war as opposed to the anime.

- The rampage/massacre in the city by Vurai did not happen at all.

- Oshutoru uses his mask's power to fight off a bunch of Uzuurusha before agreeing on a one-on-one fight with the 1000-men chief guy. His slash wasn't so powerful to split a mountain, but he still cut his enemy down easily.

- He didn't spend the day with Aruru and Kamyu looking for Kuon, she just came to his room and he exposed the two hiding on his bed. Haku actually met Oboro and the twins at a sake house on the same night as the Tuskuru envoys came. Oboro got drunk easily and started boasting about his daughter. His last drunken babling was the words gu..on...

(before this event, there were mini events when Haku walked past Kuon's room at night and heard voices coming from her room urging her to come back home, they were from the twins)
Which means they might have come here much earlier than the envoy (to scout the Yamato empire? or just to get Kuron back?)

That's it so far I got. You can find the playthough in raws if you google.
