even in boys. it's not recommended to have a long one unless you tie it up. it will get in your view. It could be a fatal weakness and I'm not familiar with any nba players at all or basketball but blocking the line of sight is fatal in any way. It's stupid to have long hair while playing. Even Mitsui from slam dunk cut his hair off when he starts playing again.

That's more like it. Louis Amundson from the Pacers is one example. His hair was supposed to be long, but it was cut short to about shoulder length, until he had to put a ponytail on.

Say, suppose RKB II will be set a year after the current arc, what do you think Keishin's middle school girls team would look like before Tomoka comes?

a. An offensive team which lacks defensive anchors.
b. A defensive team which lacks firepower.
c. A not-so-decent team with a lot of missing pieces.
d. It doesn't exist yet.

The other 5 lower grades will be remain and they had potential if someone is teaching them. Though really. The thing I want to see is Subaru play again but that will probably mess the story up because he will either left the girls or play basketball.

I'm seeing the potential of the new five, though I think the plays will usually revolve around Kage and Mimi. I was thinking that maybe the author is a fan of the pick-and-roll?

Not sure yet because the given ability is just summary or given thought to it. The novel isn't being translated so we can't judge the character development aside from the skill development. But playing style. The current team and the one next it is pure offensive if you ask me.

After what I thought was a slightly disappointing vol. 10 (they were just random short stories taking place at different times, so boring to me that I actually never got around to finish the volume completely), vol.11 goes back to the more normal schedule of the story.

Spoiler:

There were two main parts to this volume: Subaru's birthday party and the open basketball competition set up by Maho's dad per Subaru's request back in vol. 9.

The birthday party was pretty standard Ro-kyu-bu affair - with the girls throwing a party for Subaru full of heart-warming presents and some slightly embarrassing moments (read: slightly ecchi/dangerous/compromising situations for Subaru).

The basketball section is where the action was, with a full re-match against the fifth graders and a subtle introduction of a couple of new rivals from Suzuritani's (Miyu/Chibi-ribbon's team). The sixth graders and the fifth graders made a bet against each other: if the fifth graders won they get to be the sole basketball team of Keishin, whereas if the fifth grader lost they have to become the assistant to the sixth graders - a little plot decided by Subaru and the others to get the 10 members they need to enter official competition, pretty much as predicted way back. The fifth graders put up a good fight against the sixth graders in the first half of the game due to Aoi's run&gun strategy utilising the strengths of the fifth grades (Takenaka twins fast passing game, Kagetsu screening for Mimi's inside play, Masami high scoring shots from the outside etc) which traded high scoring percentages for more shooting chances thus made Subaru aware of the weakness of his orthodox safe play style but at half time Subaru was able to adjust his game plan, shifting Airi and Saki from offence to defense while letting Maho, Hinata and Tomoka do the bulk of the attacking and the sixth graders won. All the Keishin girls had shown improvements in their game - Takenaka twins can now play with others as a team, Kagetsu had grown a bit taller (though still nowhere as tall as Airi) but has good lower body strength rivaling Airi, and Masami is also a lot more level headed and had taken a serious approach to basketball. For the sixth graders Airi had now completely overcame her height complex and can play a more aggressive offensive game, Maho and Hinata plays as a double team of forwards between themselves with Maho continuing to be super fast (rivaling Tomoka in speed) and aggressive while Hinata excels in tricky plays. Saki continuing to be the cool and calculating PG now able to analysis the entire game without Subaru's help and on top of which now able to play some mind games with some instructions from Subaru. The final show down was the girls letting Mimi and Tomoka go 1 on 1 - Mimi wasn't able to drive past Tomoka but landed a beautiful turn around jump shot, while on Tomoka's turn she used a scoop shot and scored the last point and winning the game.

The final was against Suzuritani but they didn't bring their A team (ie Chibi-ribbon wasn't there) so they were defeated quite easily by Keishin. Though Suzuritani now has a new centre whom is just a tad shorter than Airi - Miyakooji Aya. She used to belong to the gymnastics club but she hit a growth spurt like Airi and was thus recently recruited to the basketball club, and she like Airi before has a complex with her height. Now that Airi has gotten over her complex she was able to play the senpai character this time and taught Aya to be happy with her height, thus setting Aya up to be Airi's rival when the inevitable rematch between Keishin and Suzuritani comes for the real competition.

After the match Mimi, Kagetsu and Masami more or less happily joined the sixth graders at basketball practice, with the Takenaka twins being the ones not happy losing. But one day when they were killing time at the arcades they got challenged by a short fifth grader from Suzuritani (not Chibi-ribbon, but apparently this girl, still nameless, is a rival to Chibi-ribbon at school and they don't get along) and was defeated even when 2 on 1 so the twins now seeking revenge decides to join the basketball club and now we have a full team at Keishin.

Overall it was a fairly interesting volume but feels like it was a setup for something much bigger to come later on, now with Keishin having their 10 members but seems to still have some time left till real competition starts I think the author might try to go for some integration between the sixth and fifth graders next.

Lastly there were some nice character art of the fifth graders in this volume. Masami with the long side ponytail is my favourite. Also I think the novel Kagetsu looks completely different to the anime version - while the anime version is very tomboyish with short close cut hair Kagetsu in the novel looks more like the anime Airi with shoulder length hair (whereas the novel Airi has slightly different hairstyle with the ends of her hair slightly curving outwards and not one length with the front slightly pointed), very girlish actually.

Oh and Subaru now has a new phrase to add to his already infamous line: No shougakusei (primary school kids), No life.
