To be fair, the novel is mainly structured as a found family/slice of living type of story. Yes there is that ongoing main plot re. the mystery of the homunculi and the conspiracies of Schwartz, but it mainly serves to flesh out the SOL stuff.

The anime covered the 1st 4 books; there are 7 more to cover. J Novel Club is translating the last book now, btw.
