Been chatting with a friend, and both of us really wouldn't mind the next Metal Gear Solid game to be set in World War 2....
...where you get to play the Greatest Warrior of the All: The Boss Herself. Along with each Warrior of the Cobra Brigade. To fire the "Bee Bee Gun" of The Pain and The Fury's flame unit, not to mention being able to comand The Sorrow's AWESOME spiritual powers and sniper-out entire Nazi platoons as The End himself.... oh DROOL!! If Konami ever had the good sense to do so, Metal Gear Boss: Soul of the Warrior, would be the best Metal Gear ever.

^ Not really impossible, but I think the backtracking through Snake's past ends with the Boss, and all MG games have been about Snake (with the exception of 2 where Raiden somehow got the most focus >_<).Making a spinoff would be good, but Metal Gear-NAZI sounds a bit underwhelming

I'd love the chance to play as the Boss, but yeah i've gotta agree with Kafriel that chances of it ever happening are very slime.
& so we're staying in topic, i really should get around to buying Peacewalker, though with Persona 3 Portable on it's way to me, i can't see it being anytime soon.

But there is a way to link it:
It would take the twisted and evil mind of a Nazi to conceive the idea of a giant, stomping weapon of terror, and Granin (the supposed Russian "father" of Metal Gear) would no doubt have fought a few Nazis himself back in WWII.... ....and came across a freakish giant stomping steampunk monstrosity, taken down by a beautiful blonde warrior....

They could still make an extra MG right after Peacewalker but before Shadow Moses...sure there's no freaky Cobras around but they got the DARPA, FOXHOUND, etc. to focus on, plus we'd get to see a John VS David, as well as Miller VS Liquid!

Not as good as Peace Walker IMO. Kinda frustrating sometimes too.

^ Pretty much this.
Even with that info revealed to me. PO still had the right idea when it came to an MG game, even if not directed by Kojima. Ac!d and Ac!d 2 were way too unorthodox. Strategy game with cards? No thank you. Also, my prediction for where the MGS series will go next... METAL GEAR JOHNNY!

@Shana-tan 87: Metal Gear 2 didn't take place in Outer Heaven. It took place in Zanzibar Land.

The story of Portable Ops is considered canon. So it might be a good idea to play it.
Make sure it's the original and not Portable Ops Plus though, because story mode was removed in Plus.
