HP Pavilion dv9500t :
Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 / 1.8 GHz
1 GB (2x512MB) DDR2 RAM
160GB SATA 5400rpm
DVD±RW (+R DL) / DVD-RAM
5 in 1 card reader
17" 1440 x 900 ( WXGA+)
Intel GMA X3100
7.7 lbs

HP Pavilion dv6500t :
Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 / 1.8 GHz
1 GB (2x512MB) DDR2 RAM
80GB SATA 5400rpm
CD-RW / DVD-ROM combo
5 in 1 card reader
15.4" 1280 x 800 ( WXGA)
Intel GMA X3100
6.2 lbs

Meaning that 9500 is better than 6500 in performance but bigger and heavier...

can't you just customize a 6500 and give it those specs?

Yes you can, you can repalce the harddisk with the bigger one... for optical drive, i'm not quite sure, but i think you can by replacing it with slim DVDRW...

Ofcourse you can't change the monitor...

By the way, other than look and HDMI port, Dell gives more options.

Get smaller one; 17 inch is way too big.

Here's a good question: What are you intending to use it for?

And how you use your laptop determines how the specifications should look like.

If it is normal office usage (e.g. spreadsheet editing, word document creation, sending emails) then a normal one will do.

If it is used for gaming, video or graphics editing, then you will probably need a high end one.

eh, 1.5 pounds is nothing. price vs. performance is important.

And how much money you've planned to spend on it? If unlimited than i suggest Acer Ferrari 1004WTMi. Dual core mobile AMD turion 64 with 2gb of ram at only 3.7 lbs...
