Grimms Notes from Square Enix is getting an anime adaptation.

It won't be just a 5-minute short series.

Premise

Characters from classic fairy tales and stories, such as Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, and Cinderella, appear in the original game. The game takes place in a world created by a beings known as "Story Tellers." At birth, all inhabitants of this world are bestowed with a "book of fate" where all their lives are written in advance. However, rogue Story Tellers known as Chaos Tellers are writing bad events into people's books without them knowing. It is up to the holders of blank books of fate to seek out the Chaos Tellers and restore the world.

Well, it actually isn't that bad. I guess if I had to choose between a whole bunch of Narou Light Novels vs. a whole bunch of Mobile Game adaptations, these types still have some hope left in them.

That said, the whole "What should I do with an empty book" thing is a bit too obvious.
"You're the protagonist and you write your own story!"
Of course, TS-ing into a girl is probably a strange decision to add to your book. I wonder if they will go over what trauma this boy suffered that he now transforms into a girl to fight (and with a female personality too).

Anyways, a decent fantasy story so far. Not bad. I'd never play Square Enix's mobile games though.

From the look of thing, it seems the anime will just a do a couple of early story arc and that's it.
In other words, nothing important at all.

Guess I'll wait until the anime pass the half way point and see if they'll do the game's season 1 end game plot. And resume watching if only they do.

This was a lot better than I thought it would be.

I liked the action and the story it told.

A nice twist for the grimm's tales, we also got a glimpse of what could be a major villain.

This anime seems that want to be a poor's man last period but is nice and well animated...but dunno just didn't clicked with me, dunno. we've got discount shimakaze as alice and designs straight from Etrian Oddysey...is passable but not worth the investment.

I really liked this. I'm interested in seeing how well they delve into everyone having a pre-determined life path except for him.

Ex being able to change genders is kind of interesting, but even so it's terribly introduced. We first see her rushing at a monster as Alice, he only transforms into a boy after the fact which led to some confusion for me and only after the opening is it made clear that the main characters can all transform when Reina does so as well. We aren't introduced to these characters, however, before they decide to go look for the chaos teller and one could argue we still don't know very much about them even after the first episode.
I could make the connections on the things I was confused about as the episode progressed, but I found this to be a poor way of introducing the audience to the whole series.

On a more positive note, I was confused as to why everyone is fine with following their destiny, so I'm glad that it turned out to be that Red Riding Hood was the chaos teller. I like some of the character designs such as Alice and Red Riding Hood's altered form, even if it's nothing special, I still really liked it.

Overall, I'd say this is a 6.7 out of 10 so far, it was a rocky start but the concept shows some promise.

This was a really good and enjoyable episode.

I liked the story of Don Quixote, his passion and determination to never give up in what he believes in was rather inspiring.

He also kept his promise, he never forgot once the world was back to normal.

I love the scene where Ex turned into Little Red Riding Hood and absolute burned the windmill to cinders, he showed great power there.

Ah so that guy is Loki, definitely will be seeing more of him in the future episode no doubt about that, he looks like a lot of trouble.

I went to the wikipedia afterwards for more details of his story and it was quite good.

Looking forward to watching more.

Oh, this has to be the first time than I have seen to Don Quixote and Sancho in anime but damnit, they stole part of my idea for Servant Don Quixote specially with the windmill giant.

Episode 2:

I was really expecting the Holy Maiden to be the chaos teller as soon as the nuns implied that she shouldn't be doing that thing (I don't remember exactly what they said), so I'm glad that they didn't go that route. It was definitely interesting that the one who turned out to be the cause was the one who wanted to protect everyone the most.
I was surprised that Ex could transform into Red Riding Hood--that means that he can have multiple transformation, that and the fact that Red Riding Hood had her own transformation last episode make this anime seem very much like Persona to me--but what really surprises me on the matter is that Red Riding Hood is still fulfilling her own fate, Loki confirmed as much when he said that she's probably has been eaten by now.
Speaking of Loki, I believe he comes from a different mythology than the Norse mythology--or so I've heard--in which case, it makes sense that he would be the one to interfere with the story zones like this.

Lastly, the ending is nice but the animation seems to spoil all of the story zones that they end up visiting.

Having blank pages could be a blessing, it means you get to make your own future instead of following a script, I would rather not be a slave to circumstances.

If I did have to follow something I'm not sure what fate I would want my book to have, too many to choose from.

Kinda sad how his own family are afraid of him and want him gone, everyone else also seems to not think highly of him as well, to hell with that woman yelling at him for no reason.

Oh it's Loki, so this is where they met, Ex mentioned it in the previous episode, pretty sure I already know what he's up to here, ruin everything.

Nice job hero, you took care of those monsters easily, now to make it to the ball and save everyone.

Some might see a "blank book" as a blessing, but at the same time it's really quite a horrible curse. You can sort of see how here. Cinderella develops such a great relationship with Ex over the space of years from childhood onward. But from the very beginning she knows she'll one day marry a prince and she looks forward to that day. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the next episode says she's actually the Chaos Teller, and that she'd secretly fallen for him. Being bound to a fate is only good if you're happy with that fate, but being without fate in a world that is thus bound is just as cruel. Every connection anyone has is written in their book, in which case I really doubt it'd be possible for him to develop any real strong relations. Any relationship he develops with anyone could threaten the world because it's not "written". Either the person will abandon him because they know he's not significant to their future or they'll try and break their path for or even through him. "Role-less" really is a perfect term for such a person. He has no part to play, like an audience member who jumped up on stage in the middle of a play.

(kinda remember me of the Tensei webnovels of reincarned as the villainess). The ups than you have you life almost sure, but I don't expect for this to dive so deep in that.

Btw, in the ED I think I know who are half of the fairytale characters, except for a pair I don't remember and two girls than seems to be Snow white and the Evil Queen?

It would a interesting topic to explore--they wouldn't necessarily need to go as far as to make them the villain though, there are other ways they could go about framing such a story.

Oh well the Fairy God Mother, Loki most likely influenced her, quite the twist though, I didn't expect it to be her but I kinda understand what she was saying.

A ultra rare wild crest, you are very lucky Ex, now we now know who he got Alice.

I am interested to know what Loki means to Reina, she didn't quite get to finish that part, i guess we will find out eventually anyway.

Chaos Godmother, yeah it was definitely was an ugly villain lol, fitting for the chaos teller.

It wasn't just Cinderella's story, it was also Ex's, a happy ending for both of them.

Looking forward to the next episode.
