She died for your sins. Ungrateful bastards.

It's interesting, being present for the birth of a phenomenon. That's what this feels like to me, deserved or not. As I said on the other thread, Gen Urobuchi woke up yesterday a writer and went to bed a prophet.

Strangely, I got that same feeling

Something special is happening when a girl in a dress is considered more manly than Kenshiro, Guts, and Kamina in the nether parts of the Internets.

QFT. That man is now definitely in the eccentric writer's league of Anno, et. al.

And he can have another 1TB drive for his pr0n.

I see him as becoming more like his contemporary, Yasuko Kobayashi. But I'll be going into detail on that later.

Fixed.

Dub is a no-no.

Dubs, I'm afraid to say, are a cardinal sin here, but let's move on to better Madoka things than to delve yet another pointless debate on subs vs. dubs.

The source of his inspiration must be kept safe at all costs of course.

There have been perfectly good anime dubs.

K-On! just received a very solid dub job.

Nanoha also had a very solid dub job, in my opinion.

There's no good reason why Madoka shouldn't be dubbed at all.

Dubs enable you to enlarge the fandom by bringing in viewers that subs alone could not bring in. Isn't that what we should want as Madoka Magica fans?

Subtitles are not without drawback. Subtitles disconnects viewers as viewers now need to pay attention to both the subtitle text and everything else on the screen. Subtitles also do not convey tone and mood directly - an extra layer of thought is needed to assimilate the subtitles and the video.

I recently been watching the dubbed Seto no Hanoyome, I do not think I would laugh as much if it is subtitled as the gags convey so much better in dubs.

However, I think it is much harder to VA a emotional scene than a funny and lighthearted scene. Dubbing Madoka Magica will not be easy. (Seto no Hanayome is easy to dub, ha!)

I agree that it won't be easy, but I think it is possible to do a decent dubbing job for Madoka Magica.

Anyway, the first step is to get the series licensed outside Japan. Would it be awesome if both Bakemonogatari and Madoka Magica get licensed the same time, and then get amazing English VA dubbing? All fans will rejoice.

There are even animes where the dubbed version is better than the original: e.g. Giant Robo...

Since Bakemonogatari (another success for SHAFT) never made it in English or other languages, I think it's unlikely. I personally think it's a matter of high license cost and fear of the unknown.

Anyone who want to purchase Mado Magi must preorder NOW, or you might not get it earlier unless Aniplex decides to ship even more.

Because;

A lot of stores are already suffering from tremendous increase in BD/DVD preorders after that last episode airing. This time, it is serious. Totally serious.

The problem with dubs seems to be a problem with ordinary Western animation (and a lot of video games) as well. The voice actors either overact or underact. They don't sound natural. I'm sure the Japanese vocals have the same problem, but because I don't speak Japanese, I don't notice it. So it sounds better to me.

Well Arakawa Under the Bridge got licensed recently and so did katanagatari, so I think it's quite possible Madoka Magika and Bakemonogatari might see licenses in the near future, since some groups in America aren't "afraid of the unknown" for anime it seems .

Take it easy there... Madoka is popular, no doubt, but no way will DVD/BD boxsets suddenly become limited items or anything. Aniplex knows its printing money with them, so worse case you just have to wait around for a future shipment.
