That aside, Did that crossdressing prince reappear in this volume? I heard he (she) hide her survival from public. I thought she was in the middle of an assasination attempt where all of her bodyguards died protecting her (including her trusworthy friend Jeanne, so sad......), but what happens to her afterwards? (This part nearly indechiperable using my premature chinese. I also heard that some guys from Briune learn about her survival and attempt to kill her to prevent her from revealing her gender to the public, is it true?

Oh sorry. It's because i didn't read Erhjegel summary but i read directly from chinese translation (probably i misread something there).

Well, even if he did receive the sword, what he could do about it? I recalled that Tigre even lose to a normal foot soldier when it comes to melee combat. It's funny to see someone that devote himself to archery using sword in the middle of war.

Also, the scene where Tigre made a plan to flood enemies army is very awesome. I just can't believe that a lazy ass and sleepyhead like him is very quick-witted and a capable strategist.

Well, it's a common trope nowadays for capable strategist to be a lazy ass in modern story. It probably comes from the sleeping dragon, which basically nowadays means a person who hides his true ability, being one of the most widely known strategist. The original sleeping dragon actually die young from overwork though

So much intriguing developments and gripping character insights to be gleamed, and what most of you obsess over is Durandal? Durandal is nothing more than a glorified medal of honor for Tigre, meant not only to symbolize and represent what was already listed earlier (Roland's apology and recognition of his efforts) but that should Knights or Nobles go after Tigre's company, Tigre was to use Durandal as proof that he had indeed defeated Roland (and gained his trust) in order to convince them to back off. After all, "if someone defeated the unstoppable monster known as Roland, then it would have taken someone much more monstrously powerful" would be the reasoning. Plus, it was the royal sword handed down by the King to the Black Knight Roland. One would think that Roland would not just simply pass something of that value and importance to an enemy, much less to a rebel.

No, chuunis. Tigre will not use the sword. Tigre will not wield Durandal. It has already been established several times that Tigre's remarkable mastery of the bow comes with the price of being absolutely clumsy when it comes to using other weapons. This story has an established logic and follows it faithfully; it will not drop it just for the sake of being cool. Get over it. I suggest dropping your interest for this series and following something like Sword Art Online if you can't.

Prince Princess Regnas does indeed appear in Volume 4. I am not aware of the specific circumstances leading to her survival as I have not reached that part, though I'm sure some spoilers have it listed if I recall correctly. Also, I would put that part in spoiler tags if I were you; his her identity was meant to be a surprise.

The brilliance during that part was that that was the enemy General expected. Tigre instead turned it on its head and lured the enemy troops into a guerrilla warfare scenario instead.

True, but in this case the trope is not just used for the effect but because it makes sense in context. Tigre is a very seasoned and experienced hunter who has managed to take down a dragon all by himself by using the terrain to his advantage. In this world, nothing can penetrate a dragon's hide except for Vedas, the special skill of the Viralts wielded by a Vanadis (or something similarly powerful). His quick-thinking stems from his hunting background (as implied heavily by the story, and subtly but expertly proven by not only the hunting-time-surprise-dragon-interrupt incident, but also from the first encounter between Tigre and Elen), while his laziness is from his lifestyle as a hunter as well.

I'm not saying it doesn't make sense. The trope usually fit the context when used anyway(most common reason being, a genius don't really need to work hard when he/she can already plan everything from his/her bed). I'm just answering to the earlier remark that it's not strange at all in fiction for a brilliant strategist to be a lazyass and get recognized by people even if in real world, that usually doesn't happen because of seniority issue and "common" sense issue.

Finally reached the battle against the Navarle Knights...and I am just speechless. Absolutely floored at how the battle went. So many emotions and thoughts still whirling around in my head at the moment.

It seems both my assumptions were right on the mark; Tigre has been labelled a rebel to the throne; due to this even some of his allies are hesitant to assist him now, much less march to the field against their own country's best knights. Their reasoning however was very much sound; they only want to protect their lands against Tenaldie by seeking out the most dependable ally they could count on. Initially it was Tigre and Elenore's armies that seemed the most dependable to them, but with the arrival of the Navarle Knights and with Tigre being outed as a rebel, to them the Navarle Knights appear to be the most possible option now. It was of course a slap in the face to Elenore and her Zhcted troops and I fully understand Tigre's anger, but both perspectives were just as valid; until Viscount Ojie reminded them how Duke Tenaldie might move against them, that is.

That was only prior to the fight; once the fight began, it was just a rush from beginning to end. Roland leading his Navarle Knights in a spear formation and then easily dismantling Tigre's and Elen's defenses with very little effort and cutting everything in his path down just like he did in the first chapter against the Sachstein troops was just as intriguing as it was then; only it now takes a more horrifying turn because this is Roland cutting down Tigre's troops, fellow Brune citizens whom Roland is convinced has turned against his country. Roland is so much unstoppable that even Lim and Elen are awestruck at how they are getting too easily overwhelmed in an instant (noting that this is the first time they have encountered this kind of enemy); Roland easily swathes through their formation, and the Navarle Knights' morale rocket sky-high and fearlessly follow their leader, plowing through their opposition who are scrambling to stop either one of these forces as best as they could.

It gets so bad that Elen is forced to charge the front by herself in an attempt to stop Roland. The moment she appears in front of Roland, she is just completely overwhelmed by his presence and is actually visibly shaken. A Vanadis like Elen, shaken by Roland's presence alone? This was proof enough of Roland's overwhelming strength; still, Elen shakes off her hesitation and charges on. The resulting duel is then completely one-sided; never a duel as it was Elen trying fervently to desperately defend herself against Roland's attacks, noting that one of his attacks earlier could have very easily taken her arm as it did her horse's head. Even Arifaal had to warn Elen to stay wary of Roland's sword. Notably, both are surprised at the durability and prowess of their weapons as they clashed against each other; Roland notes that this is the first time a sword has not chipped or broken against Durandal, while Elen thinks to herself that this is the first time she's fought something so monstrously overpowering. They then ask the other of their weapons and their capabilities, to which they give the same reply; that they do not fully understand just what it is their weapons are, that they had only received it and used it since.

The moment ten of Elen's soldiers came around her trying to protect her from Roland despite knowing how easily they would be cut down, that was when I knew everything had gone to hell. But Tigre's swift rescue of Elen was remakable, coming out of nowhere, attracting Roland's attention and then dodging Roland's slash as they charged at each other while on their horses. He then fired an arrow at Roland which missed, picked up Elen and started to run away just as Roland turned his horse around to pursue them - only for Roland's horse to get shot through the head with the arrow that Tigre missed with earlier. Even Roland was astonished at what just happened. ASTONISHED (To put into perspective just how absolutely stunning this turn of event is, remember that Roland is the shining paragon and champion knight of Brune, the country that absolutely looks down on bows and archers). Tigre then continues to retreat with Elen, continuing to fire arrow after arrow after their pursuers and managing to take down their horses one after another with each shot, until Elen noticed something. Tigre's deep wound that ran from his left shoulder all the way to his right side, apparently from having "dodged" Roland's earlier attack, seeping through his clothes and leather armor and staining them with dark crimson; worse yet, every time Tigre stretched his bowstring and fired his bow, the wound only cut open worse than before.

Sophia coming to the rescue was definitely a very welcome development; at that point I felt a bit relieved with her coming to Elen and the now unconscious Tigre's aid after their horse collapsed and their pursuers almost on top of them. Sophie then shows what her Viralt is capable of; producing an impenetrable barrier made out of light, buying time for Elen who was cradling Tigre in her arms to run off and retreat. Roland then appears, seemingly impressed by Sophia's magic barrier, and mentions casually that no magic can stand before Durandal's might; Sophia just smiles and tells him that he's welcome to try, but her voice wavered for a bit, due to her Viralt warning her to be very wary of Roland's sword much like Elen's did earlier coupled with Roland's imposing presence.

Roland easily slashes through Sophia's barrier with little effort, after which Sophia activates Trans-Am and quantumizes runs away herself. After the battle, with Tigre and Elen's troops having retreated and taken a sizable distance from the Navarle Knights' formation, Roland asks his second-in-command, Olivier, just who the man with the red hair who shot his horse down was. Olivier takes a while to remember Tigre's name, and describes him as the noble who was publicly ridiculed for being good with only the bow. Roland's interest in Tigre has Olivier curious, and Olivier offhandedly mentions that it was just bad luck that Tigre's arrow, which missed its target in the first place, managed to strike down Roland's horse right through the head.

"Bad luck? No, Olivier. It went exactly as that man aimed for", Roland says with a smile and a laugh as he noted Olivier's confused face. He then explains to Olivier why this was such, with a strong fighting will burning in his eyes. If Tigre directly aimed at Roland, Roland would have immediately intercepted the shot (think back to Volume 1, Elen and Tigre's first encounter). As it was, Tigre intentionally "missed" the shot, with the trajectory completely aimed at his horse's head in the first place; this not only lowered Roland's guard as the shot was not aimed at him and therefore would not be a threat, but it also slowed down his reaction time. Furthermore, taking all this into consideration, Tigre came up with this plan and had the confidence to do all with just one shot of his arrow. Roland notes how Tigre did all this not with the intent of fighting against Roland but to help Elen. Roland himself admits that he is impressed by Tigre's skill with the bow, and Olivier notes that if Roland's assessment of Tigre's skill is true, then that would make Tigre quite a monster; to which Roland replies that in the eyes of Sachstein and Asvarre, he himself is viewed as such.

Roland's backstory is revealed afterwards, and now it makes perfect sense as to why he would be loyal to the king who encouraged and motivated him to become the perfect "Knight of Knights". Roland himself has doubts against both Dukes Tenaldie and Ganlon, the men who issued the order for him to march against Tigre and Elen's troops with the intent of crushing them in a single day's passage, but as the order came with the king's seal he could only do as what was expected of a knight to do. Again showing just how much the story is entangled around not so much good versus evil, but individuals with their own motives, goals and circumstances.

I have to say that I was absolutely floored from start to finish of that battle - and to think that it was only the half-way part of the volume! While several moments definitely grabbed my interest, this was the one that got me the most; Roland, the Knight of Knights, champion knight of Brune, respects Tigre's skill with the bow all from just that one fleeting encounter.

Time to read more.

Ya that part was definitely awesome, the way he planned that arrow to strike at the horse's head made me view Tigre with even most respect than before!

Remember that Tigre was rushing at Roland, with Roland similarly rushing his horse at Tigre after having his attention drawn from Elen. As they drew closer, Roland swung his sword in a wide horizontal arc which Tigre barely evaded by ducking down as far as he could (the wound Tigre received from this was from his left shoulder down to his right abdomen side; that should give you an idea of their respective positions at the time). At this point they are now past each other and in parallel lines.

Tigre then turns to face Roland. He readies an arrow, and "missed" the shot. Tigre was "aiming" at Roland and then fired the arrow but the shot "missed" and went into the air. Clearly, Roland has nothing to fear from a missed shot - only for it to land back down and strike through his horse's head when he turned around to pursue.

If Tigre fired it directly at Roland's direction, Roland would have immediately intercepted it with Durandal, raced towards him and Elen, and then cut them both down right then and there.

What I loved about that part was consistency in the story telling in line with previous events. Why did Tigre decide to pull off such a strategy against Roland in order to save Elen?

So now he comes up with a different tactic, one based on his previous experience, in just a matter of seconds while rushing towards Roland.

I think Tigre wasn't overwhelmed by Roland's presence as much as Elen and Sophia because he probably had met intimidating and fearful beasts as a hunter, ( especially that dragon), so even though he's overwhelmed but he might had been less effected by his presence. Ofc not to mention the fact he had to rescue Elen too.

Nah. When he remembered what happened, he shivered at the thought of Roland's presence. It was just that, at that moment, nothing else but Elen's safety mattered for Tigre so he shut out all emotion (think mushin).
