The music is fake pseudo-music - and medieval European instruments/music has nothing to do with spice trade routes.

They should've just stuck to the type of music in season 1

Um... that IS music from season 1. The OVA musical score is music that comes directly off the season 1 OST. I have it. Do you want to know the track numbers?
(track 15 is the music played during the celebration feast that opens the episode, titled: 食む. Translates as "Grazing" or "You Graze").

And you're tragically in error with your "nothing to do" assertion. The Crusades were the first to import sounds from the Middle East, the Gypsies also brought in eastern sounds as they migrated about, and the trade routes from Italy through the Slavic&Persian regions to India/China affected music in Southern and Middle Europe. Music has always been affected and influenced by travel and trade. A musician hears something cool or exotic and they incorporate it into their play.

I suppose we could ask WHICH medieval music you're thinking since that covers a period from 500AD to 1600AD and ranges from religious chant to polyphony to folk dance and festival music.

And what is "fake pseudo-music"???? That doesn't even make sense. The music of S&W isn't actually music written five hundred+ years ago but it is done in the style of various types of music from that era. If you listen to the OST,you'll encounter a variety of music that evokes a wide range of styles from the period.

At least he didn't suggest the theme from Gidget or the Annette&Franky beach movies...

That gives me strange ideas:

Metallica + S&W
James Hetfield and Horo jamming on stage!

*shiver*

I think I just died of cuteness! ^__^

I love Horo (that means spring, right?) a heck of a lot. When they draw her in the nude, she manages to look absolutely natural, pure, clean, and innocent, despite her somewhat mischievous personality.

I am SO looking forward to S2.

I'm not sure what Horo means, but I thought it had to do with cloaks worn in feudal Japan.

Ya'll might want to check the character thread on Horo and her name for more information.... it simply isn't true that "nobody can actually say". It isn't *conclusive* but there's a fair amount of evidence being presented.

C'mon Vexx, you know that I meant that nobody can say for sure, since only the author can say 100% where he got the idea from.. what we can do is build up more or less plausible theories..

yeah, I figured it was a "choice of words" or a "nuance" issue. It is just that that phrase is often used to dismiss all clues. We always operate with a film of uncertainty about truth, reality, etc. but you create most-likely-explanations with the data you have.

I do really wish the author would speak up about his name source for ホロ though....

all of u who are afraid that horo will be too moe, just read the 3rd and 4th volume of the novel. I dont think she ll lose anything of her charm^^. But i am rly looking forward to the 2nd season and maaaaany more lawrenceXhoro moments. Besides i think the music was apropriate.

@Vexx: is the girl in ur picture from an anime?

Seems like I get asked that question at least once a month

offtopic: Her name is Tomoko and she's a character from the game (and anime series) called Canvas 2. She's a bit of a gothic lolita fashionista. In the game, she's got a dynamic tiger-ish sort of personality. In the series her personaity is a bit different - she has an observant quiet dryly acidic wit.

ontopic: Actually, that is the problem -- people who HAVE read the 3rd and 4th volumes are a bit concerned the anime adaptation will "over-moe" Horo's personality from what actually happens in the novels. The OVA was simply a rendition of a short moment from Horo's point-of-view while her defenses were down from being ill.

I know this is gonna make me sound really ignorant (then again, English isn't my native language, so I think I can be excused), but what exactly is "moe-ness?"
