Futsuu no Joshikousei ga Locodol Yattemita
The March issue of Ichijinsha's Manga 4-Koma Palette magazine is announcing on Wednesday that a TV anime adaptation of Kōtarō Kosugi's Futsū no Joshikōsei ga Locodol Yattemita 4-panel comedy manga has been green-lit. The anime will air on the TBS and BS-TBS channels. Alternate title: Normal High School Girls Tried Being Local Idols or just LocoDol Synopsis: In the story, high school girl Nanako became her town's local idol at the request of her uncle. She and her upperclassman Yukari, a girl who seems perfect but ends up being airheaded, both become idols of their provincial area. They get interviewed (by the town's shopping center), go on television (low-budget cable), and hold concerts (on the roof of the department store). The girls' salaries come from the town's taxes. Director: Munenori Nawa Character designs: Shimizu Yumi VA cast: Nanako: Itou Miki Yukari: Misawa Sachika Website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/locodol/ I just loled at the sinopis, this is very down to earth version of school idols and the poverty they'll have to go trough . And the fun is that all this started just because uncle wanted and not because the girls' own will XD. Last edited by Pellissier; 2014-07-03 at 11:58. |

Well... That was incredibly harmless, fluffy and inoffensive, if not bland.
But who knows, maybe the story will pick up a bit? No reason not to give a few more eps a try.

On reading the previews I'd not been too interested in this one, but hey, it's a slow week.
Might not score many points for originality, it's true, but as I say in these cases it's fluff, but it's entertaining fluff. And sometimes that's enough for me to watch it. Probably the 'wind down' show of my evening. I do kind of hope we'll get more of the Uncle's shenanigans as he livened it up a bit. "You bought that swimsuit with taxpayer's money" indeed! |

Halfway thru the 1st episode.
And enjoying it. My first pleasant surprise of the season. I quite enjoyed the surreal plight of the main girl complaining and trying to dig up money for a swimming suit. Girl character designs are simple, a bit bland, but distinct enough for me to tell them apart. And some of the girl interactions got a few laughs out of me. No idea why, but I seem to love 4Koma anime adaptations and the creativity in trying to make what amounts to sunday comic strips into a full episode narrative. This series right now seems to be Wake Up Girls, but everything isn't a total disaster. Motives also seem similar with the "vitalizing the middle of nowhere town"

Ugh, the stupidity of the characters is just astounding. Especially the uncle... what kind of organizer are you when you don't even stage a rehearsal?
One thing I learned though... 840yen an hour for a cashier job? Holy crap...

That's... $8.22 USD an hour. Slightly better than minimum wage for the state I live in, but not much. Probably around minimum wage for wherever they live in Japan. If you're just talking about working at a local supermarket... yeah, that's about what I'd expect a cashier to make.

This show had a surprising amount of good humour and also one of that doesn't take it's premise seriously. I like how Nanako got duped by her uncle to help with the opening ceremony of the remodeled pool. He also guilt trip her that she spent tax payers money for her swimsuit. At least Nanako has a sense of responsibility so she still took on the task. The show was rather pleasant overall with quite a nice relaxing feel. As mentioned by stardf29 - it's all about being an idol for the community. I started clapping along with the crowd during their singing. Can't wait to see what they will do next.

Well that was a nice episode. It was very slice of life and even though this is Feel animating (of Kiss x Sis fame) it's a lot tamer then expected (for now). Liked the uncle I thought he has the right type of mischievous but kindhearted soul to care about his niece (keep in mind the mother sold the uncle the information I believe). Here's hoping this will continue to be good.

I loved it. This just hit all the right notes, for me. A story like this could be boring and stupid, but the quick storytelling and good-hearted characters (even the uncle) worked for me.
I thought Itou Miku as our heroine and Misawa Sachika as her partner were excellent. This is the most I have ever enjoyed Sacchan's work.

Watching the first episode of this show gave me a deeper appreciation of Love Live!
Not that this show is bad - It was nice and fairly engaging - But the poise and polish and character strength of Love Live! really stands out in my mind when I compare it to this new show. But to be fair, I like the two main girls of this show, and they had good solid interactions early on. The story that they're telling with these two girls is an endearing one, and easy to latch onto, at least so far. And I liked how their first stage performance together was both brutally realistic, yet also ending on a believably upbeat note with a nice song.
