The Haruhi is a professional model cosplayer from Philipines, Alodia Gosiengfiao, as well as her sister Ashley are extremely popular in Asia.

Alodia is more active in cosplay and literally gets invited all over Asia and is Daniel Choo's official choice for his Mirai cosplay.

More than a few professional cosplayers are doing it as a living and aren't actually hobbyists --- though its a bit hard to see how they'd avoid *becoming* somewhat interested in the works unless they're just a walking "dead brain" devoid of curiosity.
