Since it was established it's a quasi tabletop game world setup by the gods, why do people still insist on using parallels of this magnitude, I don't know the motivation.

Even debating about goblins is a non starter since even if the anime doesn't relay it, nearly all monsters of some sort can be refer to as a NPC, as stated in the novels.

Note that the LED for the nendo is -not- included. It is supposed to be something else, so keep that in mind if you plan buying it.

Episode 8 pretty much finished where I expected once again. Pretty satisfied the whole stuff about resurrection, as well for Sword Maiden and the "date".
That said, since they took their sweet time with the aforementioned scenes, the fight with the beholder was way shorter than it should be, so it felt a bit less threatening compared to what happened in the LN and manga

Basically, they knew there was that "eye" standing by, but they weren't sure what it was except it was very likely and agent of chaos. GS tried the usual tactic and have Priestess casting Protection once they are in the room, but as soon it detect them, it gazed at Priestess and completely shattered Protection. As she says in panic that she -cannot- use miracle against that thing, the dwarf figured out it has an innate dispel ability.
In order to buy everyone some time, GS threw a new pepper bomb at the eye. The dwarf could then cast a stone wall so they can escape from his gaze, but he then started using disintegrate. Considering the situation, they decide to fall back and the eye doesn't chase them. Then GS decide to use his dust explosion tactic and it went just the same as in the anime: Dwarf use stupor, GS spread the flour in the room then the dragontooth warrior served as a bait so the beholder cast disintegrate to trigger the explosion.

By the way, just in case some people might misunderstand about that, Resurrection ritual doesn't have any "other meaning" if you catch my drift.

The only bad part was that monter part...a bit too rushed and with almost no tension or gore compared to manga... where heroes learn about the monster skills by going in for the first time then they came up with that other plan....still wished they used more emotions on the elf after the big boom.

They...actually can't use that against Kagyu can they? I mean the whole story is a love letter DnD, plus the Beholder wasn't actually named and had a different look. Just making sure, the wizards can be quite sue happy.

They can't since, as you said, they didn't outright spell it out "beholder", and it is only the name that pose an issue. For instance, Dragon's crown also features a Beholder as a boss fight, but its name was "Gazer". Its design was way more faithful to the beholder compared to GS depictions, and vanillaware still could get away with.
Wizard of the coast top brasses are just extremely trigger happy with the names (and some other stuff but yeah).

Pretty easy to get the wrong idea about the first scene of the ep, especially given how Sword Maiden worded her question. We got confirmation she got raped and tortured by goblins long ago and is horribly scared of them.

GS and Priestess' little date was really nice. They included a scene with Cow Girl to remind us she still has tough competition.

Just to clarify the resurrection spell, since the anime didn't really go in details

Spoiler for Resurrection requirements and effects:

Effect: Resurrection is considered as the ultimate healing miracle in GSverse. However, unlike what its name implies, it doesn't bring back to life someone who died. Instead, it pulls back someone who was on the brink of death and completely heal their body and revigorate them too.

Requirements: aside of having a high leveled enough cleric that can cast this miracle, others requirements are needed
* The miracle must be performed in a temple and nowhere else.
* The wounded must share a bed with a maiden for several hours. The maiden actually pray for the gods during that time. As I implied before, that requirement doesn't mean it leads to sexual intercourse. The miracle actually wouldn't work since the cleric must remain virgin for the whole ritual.
* Because of the steep commitment for that miracle, a large sum of gold is expected as a compensation.

That miracle is very rarely used due to the requirements, but also because clerics would rather not have a harlot reputation, since adventurers are known for rowdiness: considering the circumstances of the ritual, the cleric could be forced by the adventurer or people might believe something had happened.

In this case, Sword Maiden is perfectly capable of casting the ritual, but since she isn't virgin due to her being raped by goblins 10 years ago, she needs a virgin as a catalyst for the ritual, and this is why Priestess was also sleeping next to him.
So yeah, there wasn't any sexual act considering the requirements and circumstancial evidence such as Priestess reaction which wouldn't be mere shyness if she really did that. And a certain LN volume pretty much confirmed that too.

I finished my recap and review. Here are some changes:

Spoiler for Stuff from Manga:

* GS’ Master’s training was pelting him with rocks within snowballs and then multiple icicles coming down as he has to answer a bunch of different riddles, with the answers amounting to a “Map Face”, and then “Goblins”. A lot of Goblins.

* After he wakes up but before he notices Priestess, GS muses that its been more than 5 years since he saw his master and while he was ready to die he didn’t know what to feel about dragging others with him into death in the process. That’s why he seemed different to Priestess.

*Resurrection is given more details. It doesn’t raise the dead, but basically acts as a miracle that can bring you back from the brink of it. So he’s not a zombie or anything.

* Sword Maiden didn’t start with her blindfold off, but uh… she’s a lot more suggestive in the manga when she basically hits on him. Then again, the manga cuts very few corners when it comes to visuals. Including the most amazing faces.

* The group also found the secret passage in the stone coffin that GS smashed into when they were getting ready to leave with him to the surface, which they pointed out may have been the reason he was still alive after he broke through it.

* In the Weapon Shop, Priestess doesn’t get hit on. Rather the guy sees she’s new so he offers her lighter chain-mail but she has trouble asserting herself until GS steps in. She also imagines using a flail, but decides against it since she’d bonk herself on the head with it.

* GS also mentions that he was told that if you are receiving poor service at a shop, show them your Silver Tag and their attitude would change instantly.

* Spearman offers to help Goblin Slayer with his quest for a fee, in a show of solidarity because GS mentions that he’s one of the most trustworthy adventurers he knows.

* When the party returns they decide to have dinner again, and Priestess offers to cook with the condition GS doesn’t talk about Goblins. He’s left speechless for a moment but realizes that he has friends now and it’s a new feeling. Again, its touching.

* The Beholder costs both Priestess and Dwarf Shaman a spell each, since they didn’t know beforehand about its abilities. They learn Dispel when Priestess can’t use her magic after it spots her (which causes GS to throw an egg-powder bomb to blind the big eye) and Disintegrate when Dwarf Shaman’s earthen wall gets melted by the smaller eyes.

* HEA is revealed to have sisters who are more skilled than her since they can run around while shooting when she can’t. She also stops nagging him over not using certain things because when he gets creative it gets more destructive.

Speaking of the training session... huge LotR expying aside (down to the last riddle), I do wonder just when hell froze over and Young Boy decided to accept a goblin as his master. It would totally make up for his social ineptitude though, if you consider that he literally lived under a rock. With a goblin shaman(?).

Also Q: is the Sword Maiden completely blind and uses divine sense to make out the world around her, or are her eyes simply damaged beyond repair? She generally handles herself well with the blindfold on...

His master is not a goblin.Considering that you knew that there were some LotR references, the riddle should already tell you which race his master is.
Sword Maiden can only see shadows. Her eyes are permanently damaged.
