Shakugan no Shana Licensing Discussion Thread

This thread is meant to discuss the licensing (which happened some time ago) of Shakugan no Shana.
So far, only Season 1 (including OVA) has been licensed by Geneon.

Okay, I want to know what the deal with Geneon is. Some people say it went down the drain.

It's an issue that's been going on in the past few months.

Uh, okay. So from what I read of it, it is canceling production of DVDs, so if they're out of stock, they're out of stock. You can only order items that have been marketed with a release date of 11/6 (today) or earlier, and they will ship it to you when they get finished with it.

That's to my understanding. So, what are the options as for licenses? Do they still keep them regardless of whether they go out of business?

I assume they are going to keep the licenses. Geneon isn't dead yet. It's just that the production (or something like that) is halted, so no DVDs can come out. They could still be doing dubs/subs/other stuff.

Okay, so basically, they're still around, just not producing copies, right?

Yep, that's right. Meaning there is some hope, but the chances are rather low.

I wish they could at least have released the OVA before half-dying...

So, what possibilities are out there? If they go out of business and all, what companies will be interested?

For Geneon, all that's left is:

Recover (somehow...)
Or die off...

Since they have some good shows licensed, I hope they do recover.

Not sure who would be interested. But it is possible for the Second Season to be licensed.

So if they die off, what happens to the licenses?

They made this deal where ADV would distribute their stuff... and just after they (Geneon) had laid off their entire Distribution staff in preparation, ADV broke off the deal, leaving Geneon heavily crippled... It's mostly Geneon's fault for making the lay-offs, but how were they to know the deal would be broken?

Okay, so what are the options for reviving Geneon?

This sounds a lot like Corporate sabotage.....can't Geneon sue ADV???

I listened to it and thought it was pretty good, very solid professional cast. Also for those interested the box set has finally been released for all of Season 1/OVA.

japanese/english/manderin/cantonese dub comparison:

None can match the original cast in my opinion.

Personally, I love the dubs and find it one of the better ones out of all of the dubs I have heard. Heck, I actually prefer the English dubs over the original Japanese dubs.
Made buying all of the DVDs worthwhile.

Probably old news by now, but Funimation is now distributing the Geneon-produced DVDs, complete with box

I honestly enjoyed the dub.

Definitely good and I hope they keep the same for Season II.

I especially loved the dub of Shana's "Shutup Shutup SHUTUP!" Really conveyed the annoyed frustration.
