May 2014, Maeda Takuya was given an experimental time traveling device "Laputa" by his uncle, a geniusloco physicist. With disbelief he activated the device. Suddenly he was brought to 300 years in the past, 4th year of Shoutoku Era (1715). He was amazed by this happening and immediately explore the area. Soon he met the locals and they showed interests to his belongings, willing to purchase them at high price. Then he got an idea to sell commodities back and forth between the two eras, but first he prayed so the device can bring him back to the future. It safely brought him back to the future and then with the help of his uncle he started the trade and profited greatly.

Some time passed and he already collected around 20 Ryou ($20000) when during one of his trip to the past he saw 5 girls (bishoujos) were crying near the river. He asked them what's wrong and it turns out that due to poor harvest they had no choice but decided to sell themselves. He was shocked, but immediately trying to save them by purchasing them himself (don't judge him), but their debts were too big, 500 Ryou. Fortunately his 20 Ryou sufficed for the downpayment and within less than 1 month he must pay the rest of it while living with the girls.

hmm??? it's actually quite common back their era, bad havest and you still need to pay the tax. Basically, food cost(bad havest)+ tax + interest, using their era unit of money and the differences in society, leaving aside Japan, it's actually quite common even in western history. You need to understand that the interest back in their day could trvel over an entire season. SO interest piling up and it's normal.
