According to ANN:

Quote:
Gridman, a collaboration with Tsuburaya Productions, directed by Akira Amemiya. The series will have an original story unrelated to the earlier Denkō Chōjin Gridman live-action tokusatsu series.

Wait a second, as in GRIDMAN?!

I know Studio Trigger created a short Gridman anime as part of the Japan Animator Expo a while back:

Ah, my fuzzy memories of the thing back when I only knew it as Superhuman Samurai

Wait, so we do get a Gridman anime by Trigger??!!!
Wohoooo!!!!
Even if it's only a longer/serialized version of the animated short, I'll take it!

funny that SSSS stands for Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, as in the show's title for the American adaptation of Gridman,

to be fair Super Sentai sort of did that too with Tokumei Sentai Go-busters, referencing their Power Rangers terminology counterpart with their transformation phrase being "It's Morphin Time!" & mecha (both rangers' & villains' units) being referred as Megazords.

Ohhh, this will be wicked if Trigger incorporated some of the American-adapted elements into Gridman like having actual pilots for the mechs, an emo in black producing monsters, and Tim Curry.

Well probably not Tim Curry. He's enjoying a well-deserved retirement.

but yeah, if this is anything like the Gridman short, this will be a LOT of fun.

Hope they can get hikaru midorikawa to voice gridman again. Gridman was his first tokusatsu seiyuu role IIRC, I really liked him as gridman. Another thing, the awesome OP song by Norio Sakai. Really hope they can get Norio Sakai to perform a new version of the OP. That "Baby Dan Dan" line just get stuck on my head since the first time I've heard it

Okay then, how about one of Joey Lawrence's younger brothers (aka the one from Mrs. Doubtfire) instead?

Since this is going to be original (EG not tied into the original Gridman series) I think they'll make references and possibly even out and out parody both series...but still keep it true and fun to the original. I trust Trigger not to stuff this up.

I also hope that this means we'll get an SH Figuarts Gridman as well as all new toys...

I also hope that either they bring back the original music:

Or if they DO change the soundtrack, I'd like them to use the music style of some o f the newer Tsuburaya Ultraman series (And get a decent english singer for the dubbed version!):

I used to love that show growing up. I might have to give this one a shot just out of nostalgia and respect for my childhood memories alone.

So I've been giving a second look at where the "SSSS" for this title came from... and yet for the life of me, I cannot see any place in the original announcement where they mention that it's called "SSSS Gridman" instead of just "Gridman". Hell, even the original twitter link in Stark700's OP just calls it "Gridman".

So where does the "SSSS" come from?
