Polygon... Everything they do looks the same. They do nice work, but I long for a bit of variety.

Hideo Kojima praised the film.

Went to see ‘GODZILLA Kaijuwakusei’ which I wasn’t expected much but was damn good for a Japanese sci-fi anime. The world, the words, the characters, the acting all these proves it Japanimation! If Shin Godzilla was the treasure of 21st C this one is another future of Godzilla.

interesting that the biggest criticism I read about the movie was about the construction / explanation of the world having taken up much of the story, I find this normal considering it is a trilogy.

Has anyone seen the movie yet? I've read great reviews about it, and that has increased my curiosity.

Movie's finally out. It's basically a sci-fi Attack on Titan complete with its own Eren Jeager, but cool Kaiju replacing naked giants. It ends as you'd expect. A triumphant victory knocked down by an even bigger "Oh Fuck!" Given 20000 years, Godzilla did well for a single mother. There are also aliens who're in the same boat as humanity and a religious one drops some nice lore. Apparently, there have been other civilizations on different planets who've been destroyed by giant kaiju. I'm getting the feeling that Godzilla is a natural immune response from the planet to humanity's environmentally unfriendly activities.

Over 300 meters. Now that's the biggest Godzilla ever.

Really incredible film, the science fiction themes were very well placed, and I loved the CG, as I said before, Polygon Pictures is my favorite Japanese studio these days.

Overall, really good. I like the reverence they show Godzilla and his gradual reveal (for both the offspring and the original). I particularity like how he was shown in the flashback scenes as an unmistakable outline in the distance and whenever they showed Godzilla's eyes.

Haruo himself had his ups and downs from. He flirted with the line of being unlikable at times due to his obsession with Godzilla, but I did like that his immediate reaction to the original was a full scale retreat.

Finally, Metphies is all kinds of shady.

300 meter and over 100k Tonnes, that is impressive. but hey, they know a working tactic to kill godzilla, even if without atomic breath it devastated everything.
loved the tailswipe, and the roar. instead of king he should become GOD of destruction.

Well, they did do the animation for Ronja the Robber's Daughter, and that didn't look the same. But I see what you mean, this is pretty much from the same stylebook as Knights of Sidonia to the point I wondered if Nihei had been involved.

I would argue that was because that series was a co-production - all of the art design and such was Ghibli. Even so, the actual character animation looked exactly the same as it always does with Polygon.
