A second season will be guaranteed to cover volumes 5-7, and most likely end at the end of volume 7. It's the perfect setup and the perfect place to end a second season.

Since the anime was announced back before volume 3 came out, I wouldn't be surprised if the novel pacing for volumes 5-7 was set up on purpose for a second season.
