There is still a demographic that likes watching cute girls even if Fanservice is kept to a minimum. Besides, boys that are likeable are very different from likeable girls, so the dynamic of the show would be much changed.

For example, take that scene where Rabbit team escapes from the tank. Though clearly Rabbit team are not the bravest people in the world, we can still watch with a smile at their growth.

Imagine a bunch of handsome boys doing the same. Their image would never recover.

In a way, girls have a broader arc. You can make girls that are as militiant as boys and still have a chance, especially in modern society where women are supposed to be on even-footing with men. Boys cannot reach as far into the "girl" arc without becoming entirely unlikeable.

I think if they did it with boys it would be more of the realistic approach, and not near as enjoyable if they were just out there having fun. You sort of expect boys to be tough.
We girls can pull it off either way, and look damn good doing it too!

Nobody says there is anything wrong with it. But its hilarious.

Though Japanese politicians are probably the last people on Earth you'd expect to possess anime merchandise (or anything involving popular-culture). They are often the most uptight and boring people on the planet. These guys make puritans look human.

You know... this is coming from a nation with nukes... lots of nukes in underground facilities, and 2nd largest military spender.

I can't help it but to find their rhetoric to be extremely unsettling & hilarious. Very bad combination, I tell ya.
