Agreed with the above. Also, I think it might be a difference in personality.
Rin always thinks she's right. She's, from time to time, regretted her actions, but it's always taken some soul searching and having a few things explained to her. Aoki, OTOH, tends to be unsure of himself. And he'll always feel guilty for hurting his kids, even if/when it's warranted and for their own good. |

Rin has had her chance to show her true vulnerability.
Spoiler for Vulnerability:
That said. Someone better be protective of Rin. If not, I'm going to start hating this story... Please don't hurt Rin... |

Um, kind of throwing spoilers out there, MakubeX2... Can you put those images in spoiler tags for those of us waiting for the volume releases?
All I'll say is that a Big Part of Greek Tragedy are heroes that have a tragic flaw that causes them to fail big time. Reij may be of that line.

Aoki, OTOH, is starting to mature from a year back where he set out to be a "Big Brother" for his charge and now see himself as a fatherly figure to them. Two confliciting nature which will come to head sometime in the future which will be a high point of the story.... |

Thing is, even the thumbnails are spoilerish...
But I agree with your assessment of Reiji for the most part. I'm wagering he fails in his 'personal demon' battle.. or realizes his error too late.

Just checked out ch 31 this morning.
Spoiler for Ch 31:
The story just keeps getting better and better. It's too bad so many people can't get past their knee-jerk reactions to the surface appearance of the manga to appreciate that. |

I said it before and I'll say it again Reiji is really messed up in the head and Rin already noticed it a few chapters back yet she bares with it becuase she loves him as a father/bother figure and dosen't want to hurt his feelings. However it will come get to a point were Rin is going to have to put her foot down and say enough is enough.
Thats becuse she knows Reiji dosen't like Aoki and would be both hurt and pissed if he found out that she already spent her brithday with Aoki. The sad thing is that Reiji is still trying to hold on to his dream that is lost love (his only love) will come back but we all know that will never happen. Reiji is going to be hurt when he learns the turth that Rin dosen't love him that way but it's exactly what he needs to realize is dream is just that a dream.

Reiji's story is gonna be a tragic one. I think that in a couple of years, mimi might be coming into play. did you know that the age of consent in Japan is a whopping 13 years old!!! Even though some prefectures do mandate higher ages but 13 is the national age.

The age of consent in Japan is 13 years old under the Japanese national criminal law code. However, all municipalities and prefectures have their own particular laws such as Tokyo’s “Youth Protection Law” which prohibit adults from having sex with youths who are under 17 years old. Because the age of consent in Japan ranges from 13 to 17, depending on jurisdiction, many enjo kyosai clients cannot be charged with statutory rape. See the website: Japan — Age of Consent As an added note, even though the age of consent in Japan can be 13, the age of majority is 20 for voting. The age of adulthood is considered 20 and driving age in 20. There were also some recent laws passed in the last couple of sessions that make it murkier. Spoiler for Law for Punishing Acts Related to Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, and for Protecting Children.:
So there's rules against non-consensual or coerced behavior... and notice the wierdness of 'age-of-consent' for sex versus marriage. I don't know of any prefecture rules that establish age-of-consent below 13 yrs of age (Canada's age-of-consent is 14, amongst other locales).
