"You bastard!" I thought, "You're dragging that poor guy away from his books to play bloody Rugby! AWAY. FROM. BOOKS. That's terrible bullying!" What an evil shortarse.
Dragging people away from reading books to do sport is just Bad And Wrong. That's where the show really lost me. |

But but but he knows that blondie really wanted to play rugby and not waste his time on sissy girly stuff like romance novels, bah! Boys should be outside playing manly sports in form-fitting outfits and tiny little shorts and totally-not-garters and...

All out 1: Ok that was cliché a little, but well done. Didn't get much rugby(mostly stills), but there were some nice cuts. The comedy could use more pace. OP looked pretty slick, got me pumped for the game. Overall Nice visuals & sound work. The characters are fun to watch. 3/5

Episode 2
So basically, Gion just wants to play rugby because it gives him an excuse to hit people. And he wants to start off with beating up the team captain but he ends up getting thrown away himself. It was kinda cool how he crashed into his legs in his final tackle and made him fall. He learned the perfect way to tackle and used that form in breaking his legs but instead he banged his head into those rock hard bones. And now the team will be fighting Keijo high. God dammit! Thanks to a certain anime, I'm starting to associate "Keijo" with bouncing boobs and swinging butts. But this is only slightly different though. The opening sequence starts with showing butts and pecs which are the male equivalent for butts (obviously) and boobs. Anyway, tree trunk's friend plays for Keijo high and he's the same kid who dislocated his shoulder and then they lost and tree trunk doesn't want to dislocate his shoulder again. He's afraid of his own strength lol. This episode was kinda better than the first one. Gion is kinda like an annoying brat who wants to do what he wants i.e crashing into people. He's kinda annoying. And tree trunk really shouldn't be so timid because it's so weird seeing a giant blush and stutter and cower in fear like some loser. And now we'll be getting some guys beating up guys action. Should at least look cool I guess. |

I had a good laugh when Sekizan shoulder barged Gion on the first tackle, and then just a straight arm to Gion's head due to the height difference.
Lastly it's good to see Gion learn that there are different ways to tackle people. Anyway, bring on the next episode for some rugby action.

Episode 2 was okay.
One thing I do want to mention is that Gion is the type of guy that isn't afraid to take on challenges so he always seems confident about what he faces. Can't wait for the upcoming match.

Episode 3
Oh boy, I hope Gion learned something from watching that game. Keijo (lol, funny name considering there's an anime of the same name this season) is a powerhouse school with guys juiced with muscles. Then again, some guys got determination to face them and I gotta admire them a bit for that. I like how the show capitalized a bit on Iwashimizu's height. That's definitely an advantage in rugby.

There was a lot to be annoyed with in ep3. Iwashimizu being so traumatized when his "victim" is totally fine. Nobody taking Iwashimizu's trauma seriously when he's been saying since ep1 he didn't want to play. Him getting over it so easily.

Episode 3
So the match against Keijo isn't going that good since they're in the lead and all. And that's mainly because tree trunk doesn't want to end up dislocating someone's shoulder again especially his friend's. And Gion helps shout some sense into him which wakes up tree trunk and now they're gonna make their comeback. I liked how they told us some of the rules too with Gion learning the game. The match is so far good enough. Those tackles were pretty cool. Those bulldozers though. I think things will get more exciting since it'll probably be comeback time next week. |

Really enjoyed the flow of how they explain the rules of the games, Gion making Iwashimizu get over himself pretty quickly (I don't need to hear him whining for the next few episode) and why Keijo is interested in playing Kanagawa. Quote:
The story involves a player named Wayne "Buck" Shelford. It was said, during a game he was playing, he had his nutsack split open while partway through a game but he still kept on playing regardless. He explains that it occurred when another player from the opposite team accidentally kicked him in the balls and he went down like you normally would. However after a few minutes catching his breath and taking a few sips of water, he got back right up and he kept on playing. He never realised that his balls was hanging out of his sack until after the match in the shower room, when his team members went "WTF?!". Next thing he did was took a quick shower, headed to the medical room, got it sewed up and thought nothing about it afterwards. Moral of the story? Harden up. Thankfully this episode has fixed up that issue with Iwashimizu (for the moment).

Please, it's a contact sport. Going into it and expecting not to hurt somebody is naive. And it's your typical sports manga/anime story so there is no such thing as a valid choice. There is only one choice, and that is to continue on with the sport. If this was the real world and a real team, he would have been booted out by the team instead for not performing.

Episode 4
Decent episode especially with the way Gion played out there against some of the more experienced players. I like how the episode wasted little time covering the plays and strategies. Still, I think this game is just the tip of the iceberg for now and we'll see bigger and more intense plays in the future. Impressed by what Gion accomplished this episode though.

Really like this episode. It highlights something this team was lacking, a coach.
I'm also rather amazed at Sekizan being humbled about the experience because he knew that he and his team was lacking something and it's good that a gruff coach basically pointed out all the small details. Hell looks like they didn't even have some of the basics or fundamentals down properly. I had a good laugh and fond memories when after a scrum, some bloodly back drops the ball, which means another round of scrumming. One thing I'll nitpick though is the translation by CR. Some of the terms are baffling and it kinda shows the translator has never played/watched rugby before resulting in some of the terminology being translated weirdly. A "dummy" is an actual term in rugby but somehow it gets turned into a "fake out". Ehh... while it's not wrong, it's just that no one in the world of rugby uses "fake out".
