Manga 'Hitoribocchi no ○○ Seikatsu' is getting a TV anime adaptation.

Plot

Hitori Bocchi suffers from extreme social anxiety, she's not good at talking to people, takes pretty extreme actions, is surprisingly adept at avoiding people, her legs cramp when she overexerts herself, gets full of herself when alone, will vomit when exposed to extreme tension and often comes up with plans. Now she is entering middle school and her only friend, Yawara Kai, is attending a different school. This leaves Bocchi alone, surrounded by new classmates with whom she must make friends before Kai will talk to her again.

Well, this was ridiculously cute. I had skimmed over the first few 4-koma of the manga and I get the impression some scenes were added in the anime to improve the flow, but if I hadn't read that, it'd have been seamless. Also the blonde girl here immediately seemed slightly nicer - perhaps just a matter of design. Anyway, good one !

It's off to a really good start. Bocchi has already made a friend! Her name isn't appropriate anymore! I like the naming convention, by the way. Not sure whether it will apply to more characters.

Kai gave Bocchi a ridiculous hard challenge. She's in the OP in her middle school episode so I guess we won't have to wait until the promise is fulfilled to see her again.

It's finally here!!!! AT LONG LAST!!!! And it's adorable and funny!!!

They're keeping the faces!!! That was my biggest fear with this adaptation, but they're still here!!

Voices are pretty good; Bocchi's nails her cuteness and despair at trying anything to relate to others, and Nako is pretty low key, but that's just how she is.

There's more I'd love to talk about, but it all involves manga spoilers one way or another, so I'll leave it at that.

Double shy black haired beauties attack... and their blonde buddies who look mean but are actually super nice people. Huh

I might be getting this wrong, but if you take Nako's full name, and you separate the Na and Ko, you get a phrase that literally means "Honest child" or something along those lines.

Yep, that's right. I'm just not sure this naming convention will apply to all characters, since the other girl who introduced herself (the one with the sleeping mask) seemed to have a normal name. Or I just didn't catch the play on words.

Kai's heart is in the right place, but I feel like she gave Boochi too hard a challenge. She could have started off with a smaller number than an entire class.

In case it escaped someone, Yawara Kai is also a wordplay; like Bocchi, just combine the words. Don't remember the exact meaning, but its something along the lines of "tender" or "gentle".

Can't remember if Rau introduced herself in the first chapter of the manga, butif she didn't, I wonder why that change was made.

I'm kind of with you there . I feel for even someone without social anxiety that's one heck of a hurdle to throw at them. What if one person in the class is a total jerk?

But I get the intent behind it. If she set a low figure then maybe that doesn't provide enough of a push. This is someone who's first strategy was to hope school ceased to exist and then convince her classmates to transfer schools...I'd hope that Kai's intent is just Bocchi pushing herself to make any friends besides herself and if she can make a small group of friends or a good chunk of the class that'll be fine.

Otherwise I feel like we're set for a situation where what friends she does make has everyone in the class 'interview' with Bocchi and confirm their friendship. On the positive side Nako was a nice first friend for Bocchi to make. A pretty good person at heart that should be an important source of support on this friendship journey.
