Vivio at her absolute best was pretty darn unstoppable . Sadly won't be able to tap into that kind of power again. But she's definitely making it work with what she has. Passion, effort, and specific talents like her eyes and reflexes.

Is it wrong to find it satisfying to watch little girls in adult bodies beat the crap out of each other?
I still think that Vivio will give Rinne a free pass since she may be too injured to compete in the next match. And Fuuka can have her match with Rinne on the Grand Stage. Last edited by Nvis; 2016-11-21 at 02:33. |

Quite an impressive episode
Vivio sure showed what she's made of Rinne took her defeat pretty badly though...I wonder how she'll get back on her feet. Quote:
She wasn't just using Rinne and projecting herself on her because she can't be an athlete anymore. Jill seems to have a problem of her own that is still binding her to the past. And if I'm not mistaken, the Saint's Armor is a "broken" ability that gives unparalleled defenses to it's owner, making the same attack uneffective if used again.

One should recall that Nanoha and Fate were AAA-rank even before joining the Bureau. By Jill's stance, they should be able overpower everyone lower level they meet.
Instead, they got their asses kicked by their elderly instructor who was only an A-rank. It's from the manga, A to S, believe. |

Curiously was it ever really outright stated that Vivio is right handed? Throughout Vivid and so far in Strike she fought with her left leg in front and right arm to the side, which is the typical orthodox boxing stance for right handed fighters.
The fact that everyone even Rinne was surprised she switched to right side forward ala Southpaw stance suggests that no one knows she looks to be perfectly capable of fighting Southpaw, not even her friends. She obviously partially chose it because her left leg was already taking too much damage to be the pivot focus for her power (the forward foot is typically where the strength of hits are drawn), but the fact that she switched seamlessly to Southpaw to change the flow of the fight enough to take control back from Rinne was surprising. Given how she beat Rinne at the end, she is apparently ambidextrous, allowing her to fight in either stance, and that makes her ridiculously hard to fight.

She used to be a contender, something happened, and she came up with the mindset that talent is supreme. She meets the supremely talented Rinne, and decides to satisfy herself by raising Rinne according to her philosophy, to the point that she ignored Rinne's obvious issues. Now she's lost again, and they both don't know how to go on.

Before this episode, I couldn't see Fuka taking Rinne in a fight, even with her training and growth, but with Rinne's current state of mind, I think she stands a chance at taking her, if Rinne can even bring herself to show up.

Do we have any confirmation for this? It seems the Saint War was pretty recent all things considered and the Wolkenritter come from a time when ridiculously powerful horrors existed. Among the named cast a healthy Reinforce and Yuri Everwin are probably more powerful (the latter depending on how canon you consider the PSP-games of course).
On the fight itself I'm glad Vivio won, it was about time she started to get a better record and what a way to do it. Vivio is a weird one, she's frail and tanky at the same time. She took simar damage to Miura but kept fighting. Until literally being unable to stand up. A bit triggered for blurred NanoFate but I guess it makes sense if Rinne don't know them. All in all a great victory for Vivio and probably the start of a much more solid winning streak from now on like mommy. Sad it came at the cost of turning Miura into the Yamcha of the franchise but I guess it's an acceptable sacrifice.

Anyway, Olivie was, at least, the greatest warrior in her time. Given the sort of forces that were at play in that time, the things people had modified themselves to be able to do and the evils that people were willing to try, that is not a title to take lightly. While I can't say for sure that there may not have been some ancient creation that could outdo her, at the least she ranks really high up there in the scale of powerful beings throughout the ages.

Considering the way Rinne was being built up as a traditional OP antagonist that is there to annihilate anyone that is not the protagonist and taking into account all the death flags that Vivio was raising I though she was about to get trashed. So I'm pleasantly surprised that this show was able to surprise me and make it a pleasant surprise, not a violent what the fuck just happened surprise.
Another nice thing about this fight that some (but nowhere near as much as I would like) of the FLASH of previous series is back. Hell Vivio even calls a spell out. Great. I've been thinking and Vivio while being physically weaker than her opponents still managing to overcome them through will, training and skil kind of parallels Olivie's path. Sure she had loads of power through that upgraded Linker Core of hers, but in that age having that kind of raw power was not unheard of considering tha every side was desperately trying all to boost their monarchs. And she lacked arms, which we can all agree are kind of important if you plan to fight in CQC. And yet despite it all with some help from one of the Jeremiahs to train her she became the Sankt Kaiser of legend. So going from seeming weakness and unsuitability for combat to obliterating might is kind of in her genes. As for Jill, f*** her, she is clearly living vicariously through Rinne and has been trying hard to sand off any kind of compassion and restraint in her, all to justify her ideology that frankly stinks of Social Darwinism. Basically IMO she was the last person that should have saved Rinne. That girl needs therapy. Somebody with authority to talk to her and difuse her forest of issues and depression. The last she needs is more punches to the face or victories or defeats. Couple of things that I did not like about the episode. Rinne's comeback came kind of from out of blue, and for some reason Vivio froze and instead of dodging, which she has shown she can do effortlessly she allowed herself to be hit by a series of Rinne's strikes. It's still nowhere near as fun and interesting as any of the previous seasons (I want my flashy magic areial dogfights back god damnit!) it's better than nothing. |

As has been said, I myself must say it's a little sad how off Rinne's assessment of Vivio is. She makes her out to be some little princess and the daughter of "government officials"? Wonder how she'll feel when she finds out a bit of the truth. I'd like to see her face when she realizes that her assessment is about as accurate as calling HER a rich little princess raised by a rich businessman and educated at an ojou-sama school. Lovely what a couple skipped (or classified) details can do to a person's background. Yet another reason for my long-held contempt for the type of people that dismiss a person's words or thoughts because they don't want to hear the words of the happy and "privileged".

But it would be fun. "Where were you four (five?) years ago?", "A crying orphan who Fuka had to protect, with no one in my life, you you rich bitch!" "Oh me and mama Nanoha were locked in a titanic duel for the fate of the world in which I was brainwashed after a horrific operation in which a power core was inserted into me to power me by the ship so I could kill my my mother for my captors while they cackled. My adoptive new mother that is. I was basically an orphan.. well not an orphan, e medical experiment, up until then." *silence* "Oh and mama in the end had to perform an umpromto surgery on me using high energy battle magic spells which dug a 5m deep crater below me into adamantium and which in the end left both of our Linker Cores permanently damaged". *crickets* "BUT WE WENT TO ICE-CREAM AFTER THAT! Want some icecream? I want some ice-cream! Nove-sensei we should all go for some ice-cream!" Also Nove saying to Jill how Teana, the weakest of the Forwards in terms of pure might was able to take down her and two of her sisters at the same time. |
