(L) Gyakuten Sekai no Denchi Shōjo

A website opened on Friday to announce that director Masaomi Andō (School-Live!, Scum's Wish, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, Astra Lost in Space) and studio Lerche are working on a new original anime project titled Gyakuten Sekai no Denchi Shōjo (Turnabout World's Battery Girl). The key visual features the words "Rumble Garanndoll," but it is currently unclear if that is the English title of the work, a subtitle of the Japanese title, or a tagline.

Makoto Uezu (Scum's Wish, The Heroic Legend of Arslan, Kengan Ashura) is overseeing the series scripts, Akio Watanabe (Monogatari series, Grisaia series) is the original character designer, and Keiko Kurosawa (Astra Lost in Space, Scum's Wish) is adapting those designs for animation. EGG FIRM is producing the anime.

The episode was good and hilarious from the start. But it really started getting to me with the guy a game disc in half with a sword with absolute intensity . Definitely making clear that this will be a fun series.

I think the overall concept of the anime is pretty enjoyable.

However, gotta say that the pacing of the episode wasn't really good. Despite being attacked by the enemy, we constantly got interrupted by the guy's interactions with the girl in his mind. So it really started to feel dragged out. You know, that feeling where you get to half of the episode and realize, wow, we are only at half of the episode? The enemies attacked before the first half ended, and they haven't really even fought, a couple of pushes here and there, until the very end.

But like I said, the whole loony atmosphere itself wasn't that bad.

Yeah, can't say I love the debt collector. Although I'm not sure it's easy to make a likable debt collector. But in a sense he is valuable for moving things along. Because otherwise Kudo would just wander off and do...something with himself. But it certainly wouldn't be sticking around with the rest of the cast. For the time being having him be a reluctant fighter is necessary. Although I certainly hope he can fight back and beat the crap out of Munakata soon enough.

That little scene where he tries to seduce Rin was interesting. Mostly thanks to her realizing what was going on there. But while he thought he was manipulating her...she was basically gritting her teeth and accepting using him. Because there was no one else so far that could make that unit work with her.

Of course that kind of approach was doomed to fail. He wasn't really invested and was basically going to fight blind. And she knew he was pretending and couldn't trick herself to be excited about that. They were simply saved by their enemy backing off and retreating. Although having the statue vandalized like that was just rubbing salt in the wound.

I was curious what Rin drew on the unit, but that was even tougher than expected. A drawing of Kudo himself.

Second episode was a bit more convincing than the first for the fun factor.

Episode 3 was pretty fun. Took a lot, but those two finally got on the same page. Honestly this show is just a good time in general. Was nice that Kudo finally got called out on the obvious issue of trying to avert his eyes from things. It took a lot, but finally he started to face his own past a little. There's still the stuff eating at him, but we're only at episode 3. No point resolving everything in one go . Seems like his father crushed his love of heroes before the world itself started going downhill. Considering the debt he was left with I'm not surprised his parents sucked.

Props for the hilarity of stopping Hayate like that. Basically "a man and woman are having a serious talk, so stay out of it" . It does kind of work within the setting anyways. Passion and 'fun' has basically been crushed down, but it is still there within people. So something like that could easily freeze up a girl who hasn't been able to make her own romantic move because of being too focused on her job.

They really did power up there. Since this time Kudo was being more honest with himself and with Rin. That ship is well and truly sailing at this point. Although it could get complicated if he is going to pair up with other battery girls along the way too.

Yeah, gotta say, ep 3 was pretty enjoyable. Gotta love the subculture and just that good ol' atmosphere.

I know the episode was about Yuki...but Rin melting from burnout is utterly adorable . My apologies to the new girl, but just can't match up to that utterly pure enthusiasm.

Though I suppose that might be the point. Yuki throws up that fake persona and when the going gets tough the fans are gone. In that sense she does match up with the MC as well since he has for much of his life put on a fake face for the sake of a performance. If she can learn to embrace her honest love for idols like Rin has for heroes then she'll be in good shape.

But anyways, will look forward to Rin getting back in the fight. Though I expect it won't be until after the next episode.

On the positive side...Yuki is in good shape now. And they do have a solid option for aerial and range combat which was lacking. I suppose we'll move on to the third battery girl and spend a couple episodes on her.

The downside of course is that now getting Rin in a good mood might take some work . All her faith and hard work was launched off into the distance . Hopefully they recover her soon or getting the third battery girl fired up will be the least of their issues...
