And I wouldn't be so quick to call them terrorists either. I should have been clearer, but I was simply referring to the organizational structure that terrorist organizations in the real world use as a comparison.

Agreed.

Though if we think about a 'terrorist organization' vs. an 'insurgency' vs. 'freedom fighters' - I'd argue that its all in the eyes of the beholder. 'Insurgency' is the most neutral, but I bet GHQ wants to and does paint them as 'terrorists' to the general public. I think it IS sociopolitical commentary.

I'm not asking for an ultimate badass hero, but I don't think it's necessary to have the second coming of Shinji after we've gone so long without one all these years.
Actually, there have been many worse characters since then (Kouichi from Kurogane no Linebarrels and Shinn from Gundam Seed Destiny comes to mind). Shu's weak-willed is more to do with his uncertainty. Everything is crashing around him, and he does not know what is right or what to believe. When he does fight, you see him extremely determined and strong willed. However, that is very fragile. (btw, weak-willed characters abound in anime. Ex. Ganta from Deadman Wonderland). Every time he is betrayed, he loses his will. I know it might not be idealistic, but it just makes him more human.

I think what the creators are trying to do is make a character that is more realistic to the community, in which he can be related to. At the same time, I think they want to show the errors in thinking that way, and hopefully, an answer to get out of it.

Lol, I've didn't watch any of those series (Except for GSD), not because I know of the protagonists but just because of instinct that I sensed it would be something I wouldn't like

I can give them points for 'realistic', but it doesn't make it any more likable. Why would you want to do that to your shiny new big budget, ultra-hyped show of the biggest season of the most successful Anime year in a long time?

Shu reminds me of this guy

Kind of pathetic when not fighting but when he fights he is badass.

Lucky you! You dodged a bullet there in a couple of those series. I'm going to try to remove my memories of the MC in those series for now.

Well, what is important is how the change the character as the story moves on. If they can eventually turn him around to becoming a likeable character before the midway point, then you will almost forget what he was like in the beginning (too bad that couldn't do that with Linebarrel...). It is the execution that is important when it comes to these characters.

If by episode 12, he is still this bad, then yeah, I think we should go out and shoot him. However, if by episode 8 he changes for the better, there is still hope. I mean, it can't be bad for him forever (continuously being betrayed), can it?

God, don't remind me of Linebarrel's protagonist. I'd rather watch Renton getting mistreated again before I see that douchebag for a second. Anyways, I don't want to bash on Shu anymore, but did anybody see the end credits of this episode? It's Inori ignoring Shu, and Shu contemplating whether he should press the transmitter now that he "lost" her. Ouch. Yeah, that transmitter isn't going anywhere for a while.

Liked Ayase beating up Shu the whole ep. Like how Argo helped him cheat to win. Liked how Shu got denied then found out that he got played by inori. Poor Shu, thought he was going to take back the pen and push it once he saw Inori go into Gai's room. So apparently he's sick? Also Inori looks similar to either her mom or maybe sister that Gai knew. Wonder what he'll do now that he has the pen back. Interesting though that everyone accepts him now as well.

Personally I wouldn't mind a few more heroes like Kamille Bidan from Zeta Gundam in my sci-fi/mecha anime. Angry, but not necessarily angsty, reasonably sure of what he wants to do with his life and where his ideals lie, but far from sure how to put himself to use in furthering them, reasonably competent in his station as time goes on, but still prone to slight immaturities....basically a character that is capable and will actually add to the conversation between the big shot commanders and can hold his own in combat, yet still flawed at the same time and arrogant enough to regularly find himself in over his head in a way that is understandable as opposed to either completely weak willed and easily manipulated by (Shu) or hilariously overly competent at everything (seemingly Inori).

Basically looking for less extreme characterizations where a character is completely dominated by one particular trait that is usually an extreme in and of itself.

Ayase is fast growing to be a very likable character (as if she wasn't already). just happy she got a bit of development.

Can I sex her now? I mean I know that Shu's gonna fail at it.

So did Ayase pick her leg up to put it in that pose then? Because she couldn't have lifted it up there on it's own

Isn't it about time we stop questioning the logic of this show?

Well probable that the sketches were done before they decided to put Ayase in a wheelchair. Or because they are sketches the ones drawing didn't care .

Anyways some nice scans including the great one staring Ayase .

Too bad she has no personality for a main heroine.

Anyway when Ayase slapped Shu, did she actually roll her wheelchair over to where he is standing just to slap him or does she have stretchable arms?

Like has been said multiple times, you don't go to Guilty Crown for logic. Also, personally, I say it's bad editing, but if I had to choose from those two, I'd hope it's the former, because it's so much funnier to imagine her driving up to him on the wheelchair just to slap him. Especially since she was screaming entire time.

Edit: Huh. Come to think of it, that perverted misunderstanding scene is kind of funny when you think about it like that.

AHHHHHHHHH (drives towards Shu while yelling)! SLAP!

I can't believe I forgot to mention how badly edited the slapstick was in my episode thoughts. Seriously, first Persona 4 and now this?
