I did laugh at the hint in the article that Suzuki might be behind these 'scandalous' stories in a bid to inject some 'reality show' hype into Ghibli's publicity. I can believe that, for some reason.
If I remember correctly Suzuki was the guy who did headstands on Ursula K. Le Guin's lawn when he and Goro Miyazaki went to give her a private screening of Gedo. The author was not impressed. |

"Professional" a series on NHK that profiles Japan's various entrenpenuers (sp? lol) in various arts had a special on Miyazaki recently... Some kind person put it up on youtube recently.
Miyazaki usually doesn't like media apparently but this focuses on Miyazaki working on the beginnings to the Ponyo work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jLjw0hJrJ8 Its in 7 parts in all. Unfortunately it isn't subbed, but it was very interesting nonetheless. There are a lot of admitions about his coming of old age and such. In relation to Gedo Senki and Goro, theres a portion here that has his visit to the preview and his admittions about how even if Gedo Senki to Miyazaki senior was still a reflection of Goro's inexp. he also admiited that for Goro it was his honest good work for his first time. |

A teenie bit of Ponyo news here: MC Suzuki revealed on his Radio Ghibli programme that the theme song (untitled as yet) is to be performed by Fujimaki Fujioka (a duo of part-time musicians who also happen to Sony music and advertising execs, apparently), and will be sung by an 8 year old child actress, called Nozomi Ohashi (who may or may not be in the movie). This follows the tradition Miyazaki has of using obscure musicians and vocalists in his movies.
Anyway, here's the English lyrics that give us a wondrous insight into the movie's hidden philosophical messages... Quote:

As long as they hire professional seiyuu and not the usual terrible amateurs, I'm fine... And for heaven's sake, let Goro Miyazaki rot forever in some dark corner ! I don't -ever - want to hear about this man again. |

Aww that was adorable. And yes it also reminds me of the Totoro theme. But considering Totoro is my favorite Miyazaki film I am very excited about this one. It sounds like it is going to be a feel good movie, which I think is what Miyazaki does best.

I didn't watch the howl moving castle thingy cuz I know after a great success with spirited away, the next movie would be usually mediocre, hopefully this one will be better |

This sounds like a really interesting story. Personally, I liked howl a lot and gendo senki was good too, even though i didn't read the books. I have been wondering what miyazaki would be working on next, and when it would come out, him and studio ghibli make really good movies.

^ Lol, I was just about to post that myself.
You know, I wasn't terribly impressed with the first trailer (Ponyo still looks like a poor man's sock puppet) but this one, wow, this one blew me away completely. Holy crap, it's awesome! My doubts have been dispelled, faith is restored etc.... I've got that wonderful ZOMG an awesome new Ghibli movie cometh feeling that seems to have been lacking since Spirited Away. Shame I've got to wait a year for the sodding dvd, bleh |
