Someone explain to me how this managed to get a second season. Did the first one have good enough sales to warrant this or something?

I've learned never to trust sales when it comes to how additional anime seasons are greenlit. I'm just happy when it happens to shows I enjoyed. ^^ Not that it was a great show, but it was definitely entertaining.

IIRC, aside the popularity, the preorders got a decent jump when the final set of episodes aired.

Huh, Tsubasa still retains the black color from her season 1 look. It doesn't look all that different now. I don't like the white patch Chris has on her crotch now. Kinda draws attention to it, somehow.

Looking up towards the staff in the official website, it's the exact same as season one except the director and animation character designer, which were changed. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure a good scriptwritter will start in some episodes of the second season (and Symphogear was the first anime to be written by Akifumi Kaneko, a writter known for video games).

New story details:

Season 2 will take place 3 months after the end of season 1.

Japan has joined with America and begun doing collaborative research on the Symphogear system.

A new complete relic (code-named: Sacrist S) was transported to an American military base.

A new enemy is lurking behind the shadows.

A large flood of Noise has spread from the treasury of Babylonia that Fine left open in season 1.

Hibiki, Tsubasa and Chris are charged with defending against the Noise onslaught.

Hey it's not the staffs fault the budget got cut in half. If I remember right the first season was meant to be a 26 episode run right after the show aired the writers had no chose but to rewrite the entire script in a day...
