What is a rush?

Quite simply it is one of the native traditions of the 2ch existence of Saimoe... it is a fun way to interact with other like-minded fans to show support for some cause. Most rushes are based on a single character or series. One of the main goals it to make an unbroken series of posts in 2ch, which is pretty easy in the first rounds but becomes more and more difficult as the tournament progresses, so timing is important! The AnimeSuki rush is a rush more to show the support of English speaking fans of some of the traditions of the Saimoe. It was started by todkapuz and ando during Saimoe 2007 and ran strong for the first two years but is essentially dead at this point, in part due to 2ch bans on foreign IPs. Even if you aren't voting at the time of the rush for whatever reason, you are still encouraged to participate.

See this post for an example of a rush. Note the 2-part challenge rush of Nagisa--coordinating these combo posts with someone else can be quite tricky but also fun.

Use the time at http://www3.nict.go.jp/cgi-bin/JST_E.pl! No really, this is important. Proper rushing requires precise posting, to the second, so it is important for everyone to be looking at the same clock.

How do I make my rush post?

A blank rush template is at the end of this post. Search this site for ascii art of your character (using their original name, like "古河渚" for Nagisa), and trim lines from the top and bottom to make it fit into the template. You may not be able to find any art for the character you want, though. Make sure there are no extra blank lines before/after the template--there's a restriction on the number of lines per post.


Are there any template rules?

There are technical limitations of 2ch, particularly 2048 bytes. No real guarantee that the post will fit is known other than just test-posting it. While 2ch claims it is 2048, in practice the limit is much lower (and less definite). Use this size counter to weigh your post. Stay below 1800 for the first field--that isn't the actual limit, but it is a safe one.

For our rushes, the only required element is ensuring that the AnimeSuki linker is present and appropriately located. Note, the linker is spread across the bottom and top of the rush posts such to LINK the posts together.

The film strip running down the left of the rush post can be modified as you like, though. The "default" is just "Anime", but feel free to put a character's name there instead or remove some or all of it if you need to cut down on your post's size.

Include additional character support (comments, image links) if you can. If you can't get your post under the size limit, you may want to post your extra support before the rush and then link to it in your rush post with ">>[post number]". Please keep your commentary positive. Yes, the dark side is strong, but it makes the rest of us look bad. Save the anti-moe bashing for posts outside of the rush if you must insist.

Post under your AnimeSuki username so we can tell each other apart in the sea of Anonymous.

Don't give the Japanese finger ammunition! If you've already voted, please make sure that you change the <<CHARA-HERE>> to something else, like //CHARA-HERE//. 2ch already has enough gaijin-hating people; they love to blame fake voting on us for some reason.


Where is the voting thread?

Voting threads here. Look for the two "Round" threads with the highest numbers. Threads in 2ch close at 500 KB or 1000 posts. New voting "rounds" are created periodically, but aim to fill up the oldest one first. If the second highest thread is still open and not near one of those limits, we will post in that one. Post in this thread if you aren't sure if the thread is too close to the limits.


How do I Rush?

The easiest way is to first open up the 2ch voting thread in one or more tabs (depending on how many times you are joining) and prepare your posts in them ahead of time.

Look at how other people are posting to make sure your votes are formatted correctly. Also beware of fake voting threads and malformed character names aimed to get you to waste your vote. Those did happen a few times last year. Check your names.

Then, open the time link above in a new window, size adjusted so you can see and click the post button on the voting thread in the window behind it when the time is right.

If you haven't posted anything on 2ch that day, you'll probably get a page regarding setting a cookie. To ensure that this doesn't throw off your timing, clear your 2ch cookies (to make sure you do get the cookie page), click post a minute or two early, and then click okay at the cookie page at the appointed time. The alternative is posting earlier, either in one of the other polls (if you speak Moon) or in this voting thread. If the latter, follow the previous instructions regarding extra posts and link to this advance post (>>[post number]).

If this is true, I doubt non-Japanese moe-bun won't count towards this requirement, unless they're upping the pressure.

Before, they said that adding moe-bun was encouraged because it added to the competitive atmosphere, increasing the srsness of the bsns. To outright require it seems pretty killjoy.

I don't think having to add "<character name> is <adjective>" to your post will have any effect on multi votes. Even if they are using a script to automate the cheating, it's pretty easy to get it to spit out random simple lines.

they are already in the pre-nomination list, according to this (which examines whether a character passes the nomination or not). It's just that as you said, someone renominated them.
