So regarding Bern and the tanabata, who thinks Bern became this way because she found out that while Rika was able to go on living her life, she wasn't that Rika (the same dilemma that Ange ran into, and will probably come up for Meta-Battler)?

I'm guessing that Beato isn't the only one who'll be redeemed by the end.

Well, in Higurashi, I believe Bern was the one watching all the kakera and the representation of all the Rika's of the worlds, while Rika was the one travelling between them, or so I heard (I'm probably wrong, though). And the Rika that got the happy ending was the same one that went through a thousand years of blood and murder before getting it, so I don't think that affected Bern (much, anyways).

EP2's ???? suggests that Rika is Bern's past, making her existence similar to Meta-Battler's.

The genre Umineko belongs to is generally known as "visual novel", but it calls itself a "sound novel", probably because the sound plays a larger role than the visuals (which as we all know aren't exactly the greatest)...

Well it doesn't really make a big difference anyway. It just came to my attention again as I saw the cover Normally, I am not that interested in the cover - here is the exception because it wasn't released yet and therefore I can't play/actually read it yet.

My view is similar. Rika is still in higurashi after she won but bern now after winning went and played around with alternitive worlds and outcomes. In the ending of the Higurashi anime Bern apears as a grown up Rika. Though Bern is born form Rika there goals aren't exacly alligned as after winning in higurashi Rika just wanted to recover while Bern went and looked at alternitive outcomes before Umineko started.

So Bern was born as Meta-Rika but after thousands of years is now independent of rika though she dose have Rika's memories and still looks similar.

A small off-topic question as I haven't played Higurashi yet - I want to but as it just got licensed the fan translation isn't available anymore and who knows when the "offiical" English version will come out.
Anyway: So with what you said the ending of Higurashi isn't a completely good ending? After all you said Rika had to stay there or is that actually something good in this case?

It's basically that, but I think she wasn't entirely aware of it at the beginning. Meta-Battler is already independent from the Battler on the board, and won't ever return to the "board world" even if he wins. From the EP4 tea, it doesn't seem that he's realized this yet.

Similarly, I feel that Bern's cold personality (despite originally being "Meta-Rika") is because after winning in Higurashi, she was unable to return to her own life, and felt cheated. She didn't fight so hard just to have "some other Rika" go on living. It's probably that bitterness that makes her who she is now.

But you see what is revealed here if it's true it really challenges a whole lot of theories. It really looks like Beatrice is real, or that there is an X person roaming on Rokkenjima since a long time.
