The Spirit Hunter Society guy looks so much like the bad guy that I hope his behavior and action is a red herring to throw off the viewer. But I doubt something like "The guy we thought is the villain all along is actually the hero!" will happen.

While Jerseykid's take on it is pretty ballsy, my guess would be a little bit more reserved.

Since there are two factions going on about right now and that's the Nase Clan and the Spirit Hunter Society. White and Black would pertain to those two while Gray would be the stance of the 4 people who are in between this mess.

Neutrality? Maybe... Maybe not...

So Mirai is just as bad as the others as she was part of the plot to kill Akihito. I think though she can't forget all the belief he had in her and helping her that at the final moment she could not kill him and reported she did.

Now if it is true that the One Beyond the Horizon is part in him that would mean that is his father and that would mean it's intelligent and not evil like the others. How else would she got pregnant to have him unless she loved his father.

It seems the Spirit Hunter Society and the Nase family are just out to kill the strongest Dreamshades for more power. Use the cores for power and they will kill anyone to get that power so the real evil is that family and the Society.

Not only that if that is a part of the The One Beyond the Horizon do they not think that it will get pissed having it's child killed? We already know that many are smart and can reason if he did die they would probably be the cause of it destroying the world in vengeance.

Maybe KnK really isn't that harmful, and Izumi just wanted the hollow stone like with the Hollow Shadow.

I wouldn't be that critical of Mirai. Izumi's given rationale for killing Akihito was fairly persuasive.

"If we don't kill him, we'll have an unstoppable monster on our hands, and who knows how much damage he could bring to the world?"

It's not a purely speculative concern, either, as we've seen what an out-of-control Akihito can do, and it's quite explosive.

Izumi is playing people, of course, and Mirai may even suspect it, but is this a bluff you're willing to call?

Hiromi understands the repercussions too, but he still doesn't want to kill Aki. Aki is way more important to Mirai than Aki is to Hiromi. They also really underplayed Mirai's sense of duty to eliminating Youmus in the anime, hence the conflicting emotions are not that clear.

Anyways, that's assuming Aki does die, he probably doesn't anyways.

My take is that...

1) Hiromi has been handling Aki for quite some time now, and he doesn't want that all to go to waste. Outright killing Aki would make all those containment operations seem a bit of a waste. "Why did we ever bother looking after the guy when it was just going to end with him getting killed like this anyway?"

2) Hiromi hates the idea of being played/manipulated by other people, like Izumi. Perhaps Mirai doesn't have the same sort of pride here that Hiromi has.

Mirai probably has more feelings for Aki than Hiromi does, but Hiromi has a greater sense of personal pride and investment here. So he's the one more reluctant to have Aki killed.

Not to mention that if Izumi is up to something (which she is, but viewing it from Hiromi's perspective), there may very well be no need to kill Akihito, in which case the guy is still his friend. Killing him is the choice you make when "if we don't, he'll nuke the country." It's a last-ditch option, not a first.

Right. I'm pretty sure that Hiromi has more reason to suspect Izumi than Mirai does, so that could be a factor as well.

Just thought of something. Mirai should have tried to hug Aki instead of stabbing him. I mean, it worked once right?

Taken from /a/, here's a nice image that cleanly sums up what is currently going on with Mirai.

That does spell things out a good bit more clearly than the episodes themselves have.

.....things sure did take a while to get exciting.
