Super good (running out of adjectives) episode. Great humor and awesome dad (that was Okiayu Ryotaro, right?).

It got dark really quick though... WHAT HAPPENED TO YUMI!? Agh!

This show would fare a lot better if it were a lot more consistent in delivering its material.

Rapid development is welcome so long as it isn't too fast but I feel that Yumekui Merry is just blazing through everything presently. Hopefully it slows down long enough to tie matters together.

But if it goes too slow, we may not get to anything.

I am quite liking this series after having picked it up friday good animation, decent plot, good character, and looks promising plan to keep this one .

Though I am the only who thought that Merry[and the ED song] were by Ayana Taketatsu[Azu-nyan]?, seriously listening to the ED I thought it was by her for sure until I checked on MAL .

Also while I think the OP fits the show better, I quite prefer the ED music wise . Which means I think Sakura Ayane is doing quite a fine job for a rookie/unknown VA .

I'm enjoying Yumekui Merry. I'm watching all sorts of shows this season: an oddball comedy (Zombie Desu Ka?), a Ghibli-esque sci-fi (Fractale), and a magical girl anime (Magical Madoka). All of these shows have set out to do something different, whether it be crossdressing, over turning the genre, or presenting an intriguing fantastical world. Yumekui Merry is the only show I'm watching that doesn't set lofty goals: it is a fairly middle of the road show that doesn't bother with anything spectacular. So why am I watching it?

Well, it's nice to get a break from anime that try to be different. Every once in a while I want to enjoy something that doesn't strive to be spectacular. Whether it be InuYasha or Mamotte!! Lollipop it's nice to watch a well written genre show. Zombie desu ka?, Magical Madoka, and Fractale are not bad series by any means (I'm watching them, aren't I?) and neither is Yumekui Merry. YM is a break, an anime I can relax while watching since the Winter season is particularly devoid of slice of life (well, we'll be getting quite a few shows come spring so it's not that bad).

One standout facet of Yumekui Merry is definitely the art. The art is very stylish. Full of colorful pastels (reminiscent of the art in Index) contrasted sharply with the darker pallete of the dream world allows the anime to shine. Not only that but the colors chosen for the dream sequence involving Serio and Yumi is beautiful: the happy, over exposed colors contrast with Serio's (believed) death. It was a fun sequence to look at although I do feel sorry for the two of them.

I love the character designs of this show. Every character has a distinct look: even Yumeiji, who stands out when he could have easily been overshadowed by Merry. Merry's design is fun and gaudy: although the coatails bug me particularly she is certainly an expressive character (and who doesn't love the navel tattoos?). Even Yumeiji's friends, which could easily be passed off as forgetable background characters, are unique. I especially like Yumeiji's teacher: his design sticks with me. Yumi also has a wonderful design: I am in love with her hair, which is either a stylish red or glowing pink.

The show certainly poses a lot of mysteries. The anime is two episodes in and Yumeiji and Merry have not entered a true partnership yet. It moves very slowly but, as I've said earlier, that's a good thing as I use the anime to relax and unwind. As long as the mysteries are resolved eventually I don't particularly care what the pace of the series is.

Did anyone else enjoy the donut scene in episode 2 as much as I did?

Ep 2 was quite good.
The animation was ok. Isana's father looks cool :O , what is his job?
Damn , Yumi & Serio that was fast , they introduced them , they are already out , well Serio...
Poor Merry , even though she said that she doesn't need help , desperately she needs one. She's lost , she can't do thing alone in an unknown world , specially the Earth.
Oh and , the teacher is "the weirdo" -.-

Interesting plot , will keep watching.

Genten -> Watch "Level E" , this one is very nice & the surprise this season.

I'd pick up the series but I've already got a ton of anime on my plate right now. Maybe when all of the anime I'm watching end (they're all only 11-12 episodes).

Though on the flipside, if it goes too quickly, there won't be many chances to understand the plot and characters as the development for either gets shafted.

Personally, I just think that the series needs to find a more balanced pace to follow; leave time and space for development without losing too much steam. I know (or hope) the series will eventually make the surrounding circumstances with the main characters clear, I'm just hoping that it will do so sooner than later so that everything that's going on is better understood in the long run.

I agree that the anime would be alot better if it just slowed down with the development, it was going by way to fast just introducing a side-character, then having that character destroyed already.

Getting Cardcaptor Sakura vibes from the ED... Needless to say, I like.
