But for real, it was a pretty good speech.

Who would have thought, a lot of people like a president who's not a sociopath who doesn't care if they die.

Or maybe they just appreciate someone who actually treats Covid as something that exists and is an actual serious problem. I imagine that wins some points.

We're not going to pretend people are going to magically stop dying here, but at the very least we can keep this from sprialing out of control. Just look at India recently.

I wonder how many media outlets who eagerly pushed the fake news of Russian bounties will apologise, probably none.
I'm more concerned how potential casus belli like this are thrown left and right with less restraint nowadays than in the past than any implications for American domestic politics

No one wants to be guilty of firing the first shot but everyone these days is standing on their borders thumping their chests gorilla style. How long until some country fucks up and gets an itchy trigger finger then all hell breaks loose in retaliation.

Isn't that basically how WWI got started?

Of course, we're in an age where if someone gets said itchy trigger finger, we're going to probably end up with a world in a Nuclear Winter (and remember, the Atomic Bomb is now child's play compared to what some nations are capable of. It's just a good thing (maybe?) that at least some of the sociopaths at the top like having people to rule over...)

This time I don't think than the trigger is likely to be a assasination; it might be a sunk ship, a airstrike hitting the wrong target or even a full invasion. A shutting down a airplane might but I think it would be unlikely by looking a the past few years.

Some sort of blowup between China and the Philippines ranks high in my book. The US even has a mutual defense treaty with the Philippines.

Looks like Liz Cheney is getting the axe while the rest of the GOP renews it's vow of subservience to their Lord and Master. It's a shame but it's more and more clear that the previous version of the GOP no longer exists anymore. Anyone who so much puts even a millimeter outside the current party line is forever a traitor and persona non grata. Obedience must be complete, total, and at all times. Or else it's open season and retaliation.

What a truly pitiful thing the Republican party has become when even having a different opinion is grounds for scorched earth retaliation and attempted destruction of your career and personal life.

This is "muh freedom" they kept talking about, right? The freedom to not have free thought?

It's a sad thing how businesses have actual policies to protect their employees from retaliation from having to report abuses and transgressions by other employees. In Government everyone is free to try to destroy each other out of whatever petty revenge they want. Completely out in the open and shamelessly. Hell nothing stopping them from siccing the resident psychos who call themselves Republicans in the general public on whoever steps out of line.

Some people think politics is team sport or pro wrestling

That’s why
