He's not the leader in this title. The leaders are Ichigo and Goro. The only thing this one is doing is sacrificing himself because in the end he can't be with his gf as she is now a giant mecha.

I'd give him more point if the ending involves him establishing a relationship on Earth with a female with body able to bear kids. The ending needs to show him moving on with life.

The anime went downhill the moment Virm appeared... so in the end 02 and Hiro die along with that bomb, everyone else formed into couples and have kids... I guess Ikuno ended up with Naomi or Naomi is the doc that takes care of Ikuno whos health went bad. They rebuild the planet.....but Hiro and 02 never appear on earth...02 statue cumbles and under it was a sakura tree seed which grew into huge tree that lasts for generations.

At the very end there is a scene where red/blue souls orbs return to earth and enter the tree, some time later we see a boy sitting under the tree and a pink haired girl sumbles and falls next to the tree.... their reincarnations meet. Still even fatoshi got a girl and has kids...come on.

Still hoped that the series will give more of a happy end for Hiro and 02 but nah... they died off wat before anyone esle...sad anime started good but then it started to peek down fast.

Okay, so a lot of stuff happened during this episode. It was an amazing episode. Lots of timeskips, so much that I can't completely cover everything. But here is my last Post-Livestream Impressions for Darling in the Franxx.

Basic Plot

• The episode begins Zero Two narrating as Zero Two and Hiro are travelling through space. As they are travelling, Hiro is wondering how much time has passed, Hiro contemplates how he’s not tired or hungry and wonders how much he has transformed into a Klaxxosaur. They come across the VIRM fleet and the battle begins as Hiro declares that they are invincible together while ZeroTwo has begun firing on the VIRM.
• 72 days later, Kokoro and Mitsuru are having the baby checked out by new Nana while Squad 13 and the other kids are exploring the ruins of Misteltainn. Everyone is grabbing soil and creating new fields. Kokoro is sewing and then Mitsuru comes up asking if he can help with something, while Ikuno is working on a private project in a spare room. Zorome and Futoshi come with spare food and then try to drag Mitsuru back to work.
• Ichigo and Goro are looking up at the sky wondering worriedly about ZeroTwo and Hiro. Goro comforts Ichigo. Hiro and ZeroTwo have another talk in space.
• 9 months later, Kokoro gives birth to a baby girl and Mitsuru is crying his eyes out (The baby is so adorable). Naomi and the others are released from their cryo-genesis, crops are growing, lots of funs times (which I can’t type all of them completely up). Lots of stuff happens, Naomi starts helping out Ikuno with her project, everyone is helping out with the baby. Goro leaves to travel all around the world, before he leaves there's a Ichigo x Goro kiss – Ichigo’s face is so red!
• Goro asking Ikuno to take care of Ichigo while he’s gone. It’s apparent that he and Ichigo have gotten closer. Later that night, Ichigo is worried about Hiro and Ichigo looks at the picture book.
• Two years later, Hiro and ZeroTwo are still travelling to the VIRM planet which they finally come across it. VRIM tries to contact them, but then they bring out Hringhorn and surprise attacks ZeroTwo and Hiro. Hiro is having problems and maybe drained of energy. ZeroTwo is taking damage. In Hiro’s world, Hiro is sinking into water/death. VIRM hypothesizes that their bodies are at their limits. The bomb is about to be destroyed. ZeroTwo screams and has her side pierced by Hringhiorn. ZeroTwo cries out for everyone’s help.
• Kokoro’s baby is a girl called Ai.
• Kokoro’s baby (Ai) hears ZeroTwo’s cries for help and informs her father and mother who grabs everyone together including Naomi and they hold hands with the ZeroTwo statue and call out to them. ZeroTwo hears their voices. Naomi and Ikuno are spending time together.
• Hiro hears their voices and ZeroTwo goes on a huge speech about their bond, what she heard about humanity. ZeroTwo and Hiro kiss. Hiro wakes up and they pull out and transform Hringhorni and attack the VIRM with it. Using the bomb, ZeroTwo punches the bomb into the planet and the final attack is done by an orange aura Strelizia or its soul. Final sacrificial attack - They die as they destroy the VIRM homeworld.
• ZeroTwo and Hiro as full blue and red oni – dying final words and confession. As they die, VIRM comments that their race won’t die so long as they are others like them in this universe (or something like that). ZeroTwo's and Hiro's souls fly off into space. On earth, Kokoro hugs Ai as everyone cries and Ichigo cries that they will be back one day, so she'll keep her promise to create a place for them(I can't really remember).
• ZeroTwo statue cracks and disappears leaving behind a tree sapling. Klaxxosaurs return to underneath the earth and restore vitality to the planet over a long period of time.
• 8 years later, a cherry blossom grows where the statue was. Everyone has begun expanding into villages. The picture book is completed by Ichigo who laughs at Hiro's badly drawn picture. The last page is of a white Jian bird flying away into space. Squad 13 and the rest of the kids have started up a school. Zorome is a teacher and Miku has grown her hair out and is one too (I'm not sure if they are together) and they are still fighting as usual. Kokoro has another child with Mitsuru (Her hair is shorter). Ichigo is pregnant with Goro’s child and she visits Ikuno who is in the hospital (she is maybe dying or sick - not sure, because she used up so much energy blasting the wall). Futoshi visits her and it's revealed that he has become a baker. Naomi is Ikuno's nurse.
• Ikuno developed a way to slow down the clone aging burnout process for the next generation of children, so that they live longer. Futoshi has a wife and two to three kids now. Ichigo x Goro is official. Everyone gathers at the tree where they remember Hiro and ZeroTwo.
• The cherry tree grows over the next thousands of years as civilization re-develops and Hiro and ZeroTwo’s souls return to earth. They are then reincarnated after thousands of years. It ends with Hiro and ZeroTwo’s human reincarnations meeting at the foot of the cherry tree and a new story begins from there.
  
• I think the picture book was still around in the future not sure because reincarnated Hiro was reading a book when he re-met ZeroTwo.

Impressions
- Okay, for the most part, this was an amazing episode. I'm happy enough to give this series (8.5/10). It was very immersive for me and I heavily enjoyed it especially since I do like these type of shows and I did rewatch of the entire series before this episode. I'm not gonna complain about the timeskips, because those parts made me happy. Especially the birth of Kokoro's baby and seeing them 8 years later.
- The battle scene was amazing especially that final punch!
- I loved how mostly everyone became paired. I'm not sure about Miku and Zorome, but they are kind of hinting an Ikuno x Naomi pairing.
- Everyone did have a happy ending.
- Kokoro's baby Ai was so cute! I loved the older versions of everyone too .
- The fact that it wasn't a bittersweet ending like everyone thought made me very happy (I know half of the fandom is complaining about it, but I'm with the other half who like it). It was similar to Romeo x Juliet, but Aquarion~ish (in that they reincarnated about thousands of years later (I'm so tempted to say 12,000 from the Aquarion theme song), but it was a happy ending which is what I like as Hiro and ZeroTwo did end up reincarnating as Humans this time and meeting again - starting off a new story.

Best Parts
- Ichigo x Goro kiss!
- Hachi x Nana confession as work partners
- Ikuno and Naomi are working together as scientists.
- Futoshi getting a family of his own
- Ai is so adorable and I'm happy that Kokoro and Mitsuru's family increased.
- Hearing Ai call out Darling
- ZeroTwo and Hiro’s final attack - Hiro as a full blue oni and ZeroTwo in her red oni form - Their dying words were so sad.
- The ending - It was a happy one.

Questionable Parts:
- I don't think they really needed to include that first battle scene with the fleet at the start. Removing it would've added more scenes to the final battle if they did. Although I won't complain if they release a Director's cut version for the Bluray.

I must say , i not really a fan of this final fantasy-esque type of ending , but then again it is the logical ending for the pair as they have to sacrifice for the greater good .......

This was basically Shinzou Abe the animated series. lol

Poor Ikuno. She has no place in this new (old) world of babies, so the plot conveniently has her withering away in a hospital room while everyone else is making babies like rabbits. EDIT: it looks like they gave her a partner at least. She's still dying though.

All in all, a 6/10 show I guess. It has some entertaining moments but that's about it. It was a largely misguided and mediocre show.

Well I would have preferred if they just died but basically they reincarnated and VIRM will be back too in the future. So they can start all over again, never ending story. A good ending for everyone else but a sad and pointless end for 02 and Hiro imho.

Japan did not invent this, the sacrifice theme is explored in various foreign works, you can find a plethora of cases like that in DC heroes or comic books for example.

On the final, I found solid and fun, good series to follow, 8/10.

Ok I finished the show today and wow, these final episodes including the series's finale really let me down. The predictable nature and rushed plot, character relationship for the sake of drama, etc.

Also, it seems VRIM isn't truly defeated.

The series went with a happy ending that I was kinda prepared for. Action was probably the best part of the show/finale as it looked stylistic and over the top. Otherwise, I'm underwhelmed.

Hope Trigger's next series will be better. This has been quite a wild ride though, I have to admit.

Honestly, didn't want to jinx it by saying that DitF really reminded me of Xenogears, since they took the idea of two people only being able to fly together because they only have one wing each. Sadly, they also took the idea of an amazing first half, only to be let down by the latter.

Oh well, just like Penguin Drum ended for me in episode 18, DitF ended for me in episode 13.

That was an interesting ending, and for my part I hate being right. As a direct parable of the Golden Bough, Hiro and Zero-Two end up sacrificing themselves to save Earth and everyone else. Centuries hence, they are resurrected again in their ideal forms to meet (and love) each other once more. Though just as surely as winter must come again, we know that the VIRM are still out there--crippled, but likely plotting their revenge. This is exactly what was meant by the "bittersweet" ending we were all told about some time ago.
