Summertime Render

From the final chapter of the manga series, Summertime Render, it confirms there's an anime adaptation. The message comes from Yasuki Tanaka.

Plot Summary

Quote:
After his parents died, Shinpei Ajiro lived with the Kofune sisters, Mio and Ushio, but he has since moved to live on his own in Tokyo. But after Ushio drowns while trying to save the young Shiori Kobayakawa, he returns home to mourn her departure. However, bruises around Ushio's neck bring her cause of death into question.

Taking a step back, Shinpei becomes convinced there must be another explanation. Dangerous entities roam among the islanders, and a vision of deceased Ushio asks him to "save Mio" as her final request. He is certain that something is afoot—and Ushio's death is only a piece of the puzzle.

With the help of Mio and various others, Shinpei struggles to forge a future in which he, his friends, and family can stay alive. But the more he investigates, the more impossible such a future seems. This darkness infiltrates his home island. Just how much more suffering will he go through before finding the right path to save it all?

Watanabe Ayumu directing. That takes the expectations level up at least 2 tiers.

Looks like this will be coming to Disney+ (or possibly Hulu in the US).

I am liking this VA cast. Ushio sounds like a good match. Yoko Hikasa as the author is going to be awesome. That OP tune sounds like one I will actually watch. The art is a cleaned up but faithful version of the manga. I am cautiously optimistic that this is going to be done right.

I mean its no worse than The Walking Dead or something though I'm not sure where Disney is going to stream it... they did set up parental controls on Disney+ when the Netflix Marvel shows came over though. I'm guessing they're setting up an anime channel for D+ though I really hope its not Hulu... there's going to be almost no anime left on Hulu when Funimation revokes their licenses.

Also here's a working PV2:

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?
I expect it'll take some time to catch on though, the manga was a bit of a sleeper hit as well. As long as the adaptation is well executed anyway.

Well, aside from being trapped in Disney jail episode 1 is really promising. I sort of like the OP though the ED is a bit spartan. Production value feels pretty high overall regardless. Fansubs are nice but hopefully Disney figures out what they're going to do sooner rather than later.

Subs appeared almost in real-time, LOL.

Media giants just don’t get it - anime abides. Anime fans just won’t wait, and if these people cared enough to maximize their profit they’d understand that.

Spoiler for ep1:

Uhh... Why does Disney have rights to anime? Are they trying to get into the anime industry? I mean, I guess it is better than Funimation/Crunchyroll having a monopoly over the industry.
But then again, I don't use subs to watch anime, so *shrug*

Their anime is streaming on Disney+ in Japan as well... well for now its actually Japan exclusively. Nobody knows how their simulcasts are going to work. Maybe they're still working that out since episode 1 had a solid amount of panty shots and lucky pervert events.

That was the best premiere this season by far. It's like the best was saved for last.

This is the kind of series I love, with time travel and plenty of mysteries. I'll have to be careful not to get spoiled. The ending of the episode was the biggest WTF of the year for me.

Very grateful to the person who subbed it, and hope he will continue. That said, it'll be hard to keep that up for six months.

At least two groups are already on it, and it's going to generate a real following. I can't imagine it won't be subbed in timely fashion.

And agreed, an excellent premiere. Like Another-level before it jumped the shark.

Same with Ishuzoku Reviewers, but I wish these companies cared enough about anime to actually review what they are before getting rights around those

Good ol' fansub community

*points middle finger at Crunchyroll*

I heard this was one of the most anticipated series of this season and I can see why. That ending took me completely off guard.

Remember how Crunchyroll started out by monetizing fansubs? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Disney is saying all the right things and I'd like to think they knew what they were getting, the production value is really high and its based on a Jump manga. Though neither this nor Black Rock Shooter have any sort of timetable for release globally. Disney tends to prefers weekly releases over the Nefflix model though so we'll see I guess.

Agreed on the ending being surprising, I was bracing for something but I wasn't expecting it to happen on the first episode already. I'm always afraid when these types of shows claim to be scifi cause they tend to be more fi than sci but this one looks promising. I'm sure the fact that the main character has differently colored eyes is not unrelated to the current situation. Looking forward to what comes next, hopefully the fansubs can keep up.

The main character has different colored eyes... now. If you look at his photo with his adopted family during the funeral his eyes used to be the same color back when he was a kid. Can eye color change that dramatically?

Good catch, didn't even notice that! Pretty sure it's also not unrelated to that "dream" he saw right at the begging of the show. Remember that the girl said to him that she was giving him a "present". Was that whatever is going on in his eyes?
