An official Twitter account and website for Love Flops, a new original TV anime project, opened today, unveiling a teaser visual and trailer, story/character details and main cast members for a 2022 broadcast:

In Love Flops, five girls from all over the world — Japan, United States, Bulgaria, China and Germany — transfer to Asahi's school, kicking off a series of misunderstandings and youthful events to create a unique multicultural rom-com.

Ryota Osaka is once again a lead in a Harem romcom with a stacked female seiyuu cast! And an international one at that! Also, it's set in a future run by AI's and VTubers...so, not sure where this is all going, but let's give it a shot .

(Seriously though, Miku Ito? Hisako Kanemoto? Ayana Taketatsu? Rie Takahashi? Marika Kono? Jeez )

Looks like Asahi had some kind of dream girl or past love or something? But all that data bits make me wonder if it was real. Or if any of this is real ?

Man, that VTuber fortune teller really had it right foreshadowing all of Asahi's encounters in the premier...turn a corner and bumb into a cute, klutzy, girl who leaves without her panties (how did those fall off!?), take the train and end up as the shoulder rest for a hot older woman who shoves her boobs into his arm and then nearly kills him when she wakes up, takes the stairs and get a face full of a proud beauty's crotch and butt before she slams her fists into your crotch, encounter a cleaning robot that steals lady's undergarments and finds a tsundere girl (can Ayana Taketatsu play anything else in a Harem show?) who really pads her bra, and gets some affection from some dogs and abandons a "boy" getting humped hard by a dog before it turns its attention to him...and they all end up being transfer students to his class. Yeah, this is a Harem show all right .

Jun Fukuyama is like in three shows this season, but it's kind of funny seeing him as the blonde bro character. Although Asahi couldn't even remember his name, so I don't know that says about their friendship .

Kind of surprised the women's' changing scene wasn't more explicit with the fanservice, but I guess the main point was Aoi realizing she was going commando .

I actually thought Aoi would be the one girl who wouldn't slap him and then he brings out another girls' bra .

Well, it's nice to see that Asahi was able to correct all the misunderstandings with the other girls (and Illya), and I guess sowing the seeds for them falling for him in true Harem fashion. Even if it resulted in him sacrificing his butt to a dog, it ended up working out for the best .

So we end on Asahi and Aoi meeting amidst cherry blossoms and her confessing her love to him as her panties fly in the wind and Asahi gets flashed with her naked lower half...which I guess is one way to end things, although it feels kind of sudden that Aoi is already in love with Asahi and confessing to him when she's known him for barely five minutes. Is there more going on here ?

I mean, it's got to be a dream/virtual reality sim/nightmare/delusion or something else basically unreal, right? The number of cliches piled in there? I was expecting some kind of reveal at the end of the episode for what's really happening but no dice this episode.

The art is really pretty to look at. Plenty of common troupes one would imagine in a romance show but also tons of weird stuff I did not expect and it was a fun start. Will be looking forward to the rest of the show.

It seems like the date/time always seemed off. And Yoshio brought up how they might be in a video game.

I think this might be some kind of simulation.

I'm really sort of intrigued by this show so far; classic sort of moege intro with a heavy implication this is VR or something like that. Its anime original too although there seems to be a (lewder) manga adaptation ongoing as well.

I was genuinely surprised with how tame that scene in the changing room was .

It's so cliched and because of the hi-tech, it does kinda feel suspicious, but to be honest, I'd be okay with just enjoying a braindead, cliched, ecchi romance-comedy too
Probably would forget the anime after it airs, but harmless

Yeah so I'm not the only one who thinks that there may be something going on here, it was too cliche... it check all the cliche encounters, scenes, characters, etc.

If we consider first girl rule... then why watch this show past this episode? She confessed and it's obvious who he will choose (especially considering his dream), so at this point there's no reason to wonder or care about his interactions with any of the other girls, the only thing this show can do now is flop about in a circle just to end up right at this point by the end.

Maybe this will be like amagami?, we see each route with all the girls?, myanimelist synopsis:

"Destiny seemingly draws five beautiful girls into Asahi's path, and soon he finds himself fielding not one, not two, but five love confessions."

I'm in for it, I love amagami type were all girls win. Maybe this will be with some time travel, virtual world thing. I don't mind if glasses wins at the end if we can see the others too then I'm happy.

I too thought Aoi looked kind of like the girl he was chasing in his dreams...but the fact that she confessed first in the first episode tells me there's more going on here .

Yeah, the fact that this seems to be a send-up of typical Harem anime/VN's to the point where the world gets compared to a video game, along with the time shenanigans, makes me wonder if the world resets every time Asahi "clears" a route so he can do another girls' before we get the reveal at the finale.

This feels like a show waiting to reveal its twist. Probably won’t be able to get a good feel for it until then. Everything felt too artificial. Meeting the teacher in the middle of the morning on an empty train? A fortune telling that was ridiculously specific? There’s definitely something wrong but I’m not sure what direction they want to go with it.

Didn’t love the first episode. But I’m at least curious.

I dunno, if she's really main heroine then it's obviously bad, but fact that she already confessed seems like red flag. It's too easy...

At first I thought this show is parodying harem comedies in general, but then the references kept piling up in a particular direction and now I'm 99% sure this is some weird twisted attempt at reviving the Tokimemo franchise and hey, I wouldn't mind if it was the case...

Anyway, even if the twist (and it's obvious from a mile away there will be a twist) turns out to be bland, I think I'll still enjoy the harem antics. They're so straightforward, they actually feel fresh.

So we return to Aoi delivering her heartfelt confession while her panties hang atop a Cherry Blossom Tree...and Aoi was so distracted by her flashing him that he didn't hear a word of it. And then he just assume she's in love with going commando. I haven't seen a confession fail this badly in a long time .

The Opening! It's a pretty classic Harem romcom Opening showing off the girls, them in various outfits (including swimsuits), and their Harem hijinks with Asahi as they try to get him to choose one of them. Also some shady guys in the background and Asahi's connection to the dark-haired girl. Don't think I didn't notice that "Now Loading" scene at the beginning though .

So not only is Asahi considering whether to go commando, but now he's terrified of dogs. Can't blame him. But hey, Illya quickly confessed to him do, so that's a nice ice breaker .

And then Mingfa drags him away into an alley so she can thoroughly love bite him to death while she avoids some guys (Yakuza?) trying to drag her to some guy she's not interested in, and then she straight up confesses to Asahi. Because of course beyond being student and teacher, they're a man and a woman .

Does Karin have some kind of device that lets her change outfits on the fly? She wasted no time confessing and trying to get hitched to Asahi...and by hitched, she mans dragging him to a love hotel so they could get busy. I almost felt bad for Asahi leaving her waiting and ditching her, but it was hilarious .

Poor Amelia. She had the same idea as Karin to jump straight into marriage by getting him to sign a marriage paper, but not only does she not get to properly confess but her bra gets stolen. Again .

Ah yes, the classic Harem dynamic of the guy and the girls (and Illya) all living together...and hilarious, Asahi wants nothing to do with it .

At least we finally get the premise, all five of them were promised to Asahi as marriage candidates that he can choose at his leisure, the only limit is not getting them pregnant, and all five of them fell in love with Asahi because he was promised as basically their soulmate. Hence, Harem hijinks .

I'm still convinced Illya is actually a girl, but I just love the idea that Illya's there because Asahi's dad wanted him to broaden his idea of love across gender .

I admire Amelia's fortitude to wait for him in the bath. With her hair down she actually looks a lot like SakiSaki. Also she has a fantastic butt .

Mingfa just waiting on his roof was priceless

Asahi finally has enough and straight up leaves, but Aoi manages to bring him back. And it seems like his genuine smile towards her...unlocked some hidden memories? I wonder if all the girls will have moments like this ?

Personalized ED themes for each girl! This time Aoi sung by Miku Itou! It's a solid Harem Romcom ED with some nice visuals of the girls and the leading lady of this ED .

Who thought watching an eroge speedrun could be so fun when served with pretty animation and some self-awareness? It definitely helps the show doesn't dwell on the slapstick fanservice scenes, since they're only there to fulfill the cliche quota.

Some stuff that Aoi said hinted that the girls may be aware of the roles they play.

Spoiler for A theory:

Oftentime in dating sims, the plot progression goes like this: comedic common route -> enter heroine route -> protagonist solves the girl's tragic problem (an arranged marriage, an incurable disease, a parent-child conflict etc etc) -> happy end. If you don't enter the heroine's route, she presumably is consigned to her unhappy fate.
So what happens if the heroine knows that the only way to solve her problem is have the protagonist enter her route? She'll become desperate to make that happen.

Obviously just theorizing.

I just connected that the writer for this series is Yasumoto Tooru, the writer of Steins;Gate Zero, Chaos;Child and a few Memories Off titles. Makes me a hopeful that this won't become another UXO like Punch Line...
