28 Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san (3)
30 Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars (1)
31 Tentai Senshi Sunred (None - Do not ask me why it is included in the polls)
It's good to see FMP: TSR getting some recognition here. Although I wonder why DTB fans want another one when the production team says not to expect another one, but I understand there are some plot holes left unanswered like the origin of the Gates for examples.

I wonder if Yakushiji Ryoko no Kaiki Jikenbo is in the poll list since it has a lot of plot holes that I wish that the novel/manga were used as the main source...

Even if we were at odds with each other, I still thank you for training me, Instructor Bowman - Yu Ominae, reflecting on Bowman's death after killing him in Phantom Island

I lot of the people who voted on that poll don't have a clue as to what would work best with a sequel and what would not.

It ended. The romance was sealed. There's not much to explore other than with a short epilogue OVA (which unfortunately wasn't the OVA that recently came out).

Angel Beats?
Spoiler for Angel Beats:

Tiger & Bunny?
There are already 2 movies coming out.
Spoiler for Tiger & Bunny:

Castle in the Sky?
It freaking ended, and it was a glorious, fully conclusive ending.

Hanasaku Iroha?
It's getting a new anime. Gosh, these people just vote without looking at the news.

However, there are a few series in there that deserve sequels, mostly due to being manga adaptations that ended long before the manga did. Also, I'm a little bummed that Kamisama Dolls isn't on that list, but Japan doesn't like Kamisama Dolls anyway.

Well, now I have a better idea of why Angel Beats! and Toradora characters continue to kick ass in ISML, and why Toradora's recent Box Set release sold so phenomenally well for a relatively old anime.

Clearly there's a desire amongst many anime fans to see more of the characters in these shows in new professionally made anime content. I can only assume that fans simply want to see more of the characters themselves, as the narratives surrounding them did end pretty conclusively as Tempester wrote.

Good to see that many people want more Haruhi. Maybe Kadokawa and KyoAni will stand up and take notice of that...

Lack of Shin Mazinger and Baccano is disappointing.

Toradora, I thought closed very well and I was very satisfied with the ending. Sequel might be interesting, but rather than a sequel I rather see a short ova for the characters in the future.

But Slam Dunk does need a sequel for the Sannoh match.

From on top of my head, I would like a sequel of the following (of most wanted to least):

Time of Eve - The movie ending just screamed sequel/prequel and it will be criminal not to make on in the future.

Bokura ga Ita - My favourite shojo anime/manga series. Pretty much illustrates what a relationship in real life would turn out like but ofc dramatised since it's fiction. Only animated the first half and would really like a second. Don't make me watch the goddamn live action movies because I hate Japanese Dramas (learn to do proper acting Japan...).

Claymore - The last 4 episodes of the anime does not exist. Proper sequel please.

Nana - One of the most popular shojo/josei series out there of all time (manga) and like Bokura ga ita, the anime ended with the first half. Again, I don't want to watch the live action equivalent cause of imo Japan does not know how to act in dramas/movies.

Kaiji - Probably one of my top guilty pleasures. This franchise is so unintentionally funny I never get sick of it. More despair please.

Therma Romae - Instead of doing a full series, noitamina decided to ditch creativity (conceptually this was one of the most creative premises in recent times) and instead focus on otaku-centric shows such as Guilty Crown and Black Rock Shooter. 3 episodes is just a crime. Fortunately, Spring looks like noitamina is getting back on track with Sakamichi no Apollon and Tsuritama.

Some comments for the ones on the list:

Toradora - I guess they could explore college/university life of Taiga x Ryuuji. That would be nice since there's not much college based animes out there these days.

Angel Beats - This needs a 2-cour remake, not a sequel. Time constraint was its biggest issue as the whole series was a train-wreck and needs to be remade from scratch.

K-on - No! Can this moeblob series just end already?

Hanasaku Iroha - As Tempster said, people need to actually read the news. It's already getting a sequel.

Blue Exorcist - Heard that this was the new shiz for the shonen demography. Been meaning to check it out, which I will hopefully do soon. Just don't turn it into one of those fail long running shonen series please.

True Tears - I think people mistakened sequel for "alternative ending" . You know, PA Works should just do a Noe OVA. The series might actually sell well in that case...

Hidamari Sketch - See section for K-on.

Eden of the East - The two movies after the original were terrible. The last few episodes of the original series were also rushed. This series was a prime example of the noitamina 1-cour restriction. Does need a proper sequel.

Haruhi - This does need a sequel. Too bad Kyoani is too busy milking K-on atm.

Natsume Book of Friends - Agreed. Top tier supernatural series that is one of the most peaceful animes out there in recent times.

Clannad After Story - Should have ended at episode 18 or 19. The ending was balls and very anti-climatic. Does not need a sequel.

Full Metal Panic - See section for Haruhi.

Bunny Drop - Timeskip? What timeskip? It doesn't exist.

Genshiken - The ending was totally satisfactory. Not sure why more needs to be made. Then again the manga got necroed pretty recently...

Spice and Wolf - Definitely. Ignoring all the herp derp furry comments, this series probably has the one of the most interesting and well-developed male/lead interaction and romance. Plus, it's set in a medieval era with a merchanting plot. An equivalent to this does not exist in the anime medium.

College K-On and Azusa in her last year. The renewed mangas are almost begging to be animated. Especially the parts about Sumire.

I would had added one to the list, but it is getting its reboot in 38 days.

For crying out loud, this. The anime ended less than halfway through the story and it's also when the severity of the Sohma Family Curse becomes really apparent. Just make sure Deen doesn't get its hand on this and we're set.

Wow a lot of the choices are nonsensical since they had closure already. There's really no point to continue them though I guess Clannad could use a final OVA after everything occured. You'd just get mostly anime original fluff though.

How can Yosuga no Sora have a sequel?

True Tears I guess could have a sequel showing the true ending. Shin can end up with who he really should be with

Kaiji's a good choice; I need more lulz.

Oreimo, I need more than a silly peck on the cheek!

Hana Saku Iroha , eh, well, I enjoyed parts of them but I think they'd outlive their stay with a sequel. I have no desire to continue; same with Angel Beats
At that moment, I felt like I wouldn't mind losing my life.

@Archon: You have know idea how much I was tempted to post "Who's Akio?" just to troll her fans there.

I've love to see more Otome Youkai Zakuro, but I'm surprised it made #22 given that the original wasn't a major seller.

Actually, some of the results here seem a bit suspect, for example having a 2K selling run of the mill harem from 2007 make #37... at least Zakuro is recent and unique enough that I'd expect people to remember it.

Yea. What else can they really do about this series? It's done. It's over. Move on. Besides, Kugimiya has a crap ton more roles to do anyways.

As much as I enjoyed the adorable show, I don't really care for a Toradora sequel.
The story gave such good closure.

Though I'd love to see the pregnant Taiga ending from the PSP game animated for an one-shot OVA.

One thing though.
The poll base is so INSANELY SMALL to be calling this "in Japan"
The top choice didn't even get 4 figures.

Typical ANN bullshit we've come to expect.

Agreed. While it's largely impossible to create a sequel using their old "high school purgatory" setting, I think it's still very possible to continue with the original characters in a different setting (i.e. the world of the living).
Spoiler for Angel Beats! spoiler:

Also, it's good to see FMP! somewhere in those lists. I refuse to give up on an animated sequel to TSR!

To reiterate what I wrote before, for some of the top selections listed here, I think that the desire isn't so much to extend the canon narrative as it is to see more of these characters in new anime content.

Basically, I see a lot of potential demand here for a KyoAni version of Carnival Phantasm (look at how high Haruhi, K-On, and Clannad all are - and in Clannad's case, that's as complete an anime narrative as you'll ever get).

Likewise, I think people just want to see more of Taiga, Kanade, etc... It doesn't necessarily matter what's the narrative context that they see them in, they just want to see more of them.

I miss Haruhi
Join Date: Sep 2011
1 Toradora! (442)
This is one of the very few romance animes that actually have a definitive ending, and they want a sequel? I really loved this series because indeed it had an ending, and a satisfying one. But that's it. No matter how i miss it, i would find out of place a sequel, if you get what i mean

2 Angel Beats! (391)
This is an anime that gave me so many emotions, beside being in my top5, but here too, a sequel could only deal with other protagonists. Why?
Spoiler for ending:
I just felt that the story was rushed, and was sad that it ended so fast. This had to be some 2 cour series. Still, i don't feel the need of a sequel. I actually don't want a sequel. The story ended there. It was bittersweet, i don't care, that's why i loved it, don't change it.

7 Steins;Gate (148)
Steins;Gate, my favorite anime, containing who i consider the coolest and best protagonist out there, and my favorite topic: time travel. Whole plot was awesome: i loved that kind of dark animation, still filled with characters like Okabe who was funny as hell. One of the best tsundere in there, a story that put our protagonist in front of difficult choices, and most importantly, a plausible story. It was indeed science-fiction, but not a random one where this kind of things isn't explained. I liked how in this anime they were having flashes about how time travel worked, how there was someone coming from the future (John Titor actually posted stuff on some forum, during 2000, stating he came from the future to pick up the IBM 5100 to fix a bug affecting operating systems in the future, even tho it was uncovered that it was a fake. However, some are actually convinced that it wasn't a fake, because the one that posted from Titor's account, saying that he was joking and there was no time machine, didn't have any proofs about the time machine shown in some photograph, that he could have easily shown if it was a joke, and it could have been some hacker, or some even imagined it could have been the same Titor trying to delete his message coming from the future, stating it was all garbage) and how it seemed all real and plausible. There was even romance in this anime, and i was fully satisfied.
Spoiler for aboud ending:

No matter how much i was satisfied with Steins;Gate tho, i still feel the need of more S;G. I just want more of OkabexKurisu, or simply of Okabe blabbering weird stuff and mad laughing. Even if it would be a pointless sequel, i feel like i could never get tired of it. I just liked those characters too much.

11 Arakawa Under the Bridge (98)
Can't get enough of this anime. It made me laugh so much with all those freaks in there, haha. The protagonist was cool and had a considerable amount of good sense, but he was unfortunately thrown amidst freaks and crazy people. A kid that turns into a giant beast reminding of Ken Shiro, a sadist Woman, a girl that thinks to be an alien, a man wearing a Star mask, another one wearing a kappa suit, another walking on white lines.... what is the probability of having all these freaks reunited under a bridge? And how much unlucky has to be the guy dealing with such people? Add some romance to it, and there you get an anime you can't get tired of. The anime was actually closed in a pleasant way, but i feel like it could have a sequel. This is one of those animes that could go on forever, since it's quite episodic.

12 Yū Yū Hakusho (91)
My favorite anime of its genre (as you can see from my avatar, afterall), entertained me a lot and was never boring. Characters actually trained to get good, and didn't receive a monster strength out of nowhere. Add to this that
Spoiler for about ending:
There was any kind of enemy in there, and two seasons that can be divided in 4 more substories (4 beasts, dark martial arts tournament, Sensui, demon world tournament), and even tho it ended in an unusual way, i was happy anyway.
Spoiler for ending:
I don't see the need of a sequel.

Series that had 2 or more seasons:
2 The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (198)
My favorite anime, not taking into accound S;G, and the title that actually started my interest in animes. Normal school life devasted by a weird girl looking for troubles(also known as aliens, espers and time travellers). I started watching romance/school-life animes because i missed school days much, and so i loved this anime. The life of our protagonist was actually pretty normal, if you do not take into account some alien willing to stab you, or someone porting you in a world filled with blue giants. No but really, it dealt with every day's life, adding the supernatural factor and making it more interesting and entertaining. Characters were being developed, but you can't understand this very much if you haven't read up to the 11th novel. I of course would like another season of this anime, even three, four, as many as they are needed to animate the 11th novel. Things stopped a while ago, tho, and even tho the author left some hints, nothing has been revealed for a while now. While waiting for the 12th novel, the hopes of another season of this anime airing is sadly fading away.

Zipang absolutely positively needs a sequel. It is such an amazing anime,no cliches,no fanservice, pure awesomeness!

It's been 6 years or so since it was released as anime but still,I'll cry if I don't see it's true end in the anime before I die.

Clannad does have a "sequal" of sorts. Tomoyo After.

Unless you want to make something up about Ushio in her high school years.
