I'm not seeing a Satoko redemption here, it seems more like this is the attempt to show the backstory of the eventual Lambdadelta and Bernkastel.

I actually do not mind it. Or they can adapt a new 7th Expansion novel.

They never actually did finish adapting Umineko anime style. Out of the main 8 stories they only did the first four and left it unfinished.

Forget about new Umineko anime, only way that it will works and look good is the budget on the level of Mainstream Shounen Anime.

I just wanted to note: Mion actually held it together rather long, even when Shion started flirting with K1.
SHe only really went nuts once she thought Keiichi was in danger of getting punished for looking into the shrine, what I think never actually happened in Higurashi.
The only "punishment" I remember was the one where Rena and Mion deliberately tried to scare him.

Yeah, the whole "punishment for breaking into the storehouse" thing was always just Shion's delusion. Except this time Mion was in the right state of mind to believe it, too.

Well the punishment was actually real, it was just as Shion said to kasai earlier: No one would dare punish her, than maybe Mion and her Grandmother. A punishment she'd survive anyway.

Also, no one had any particular interest in punishing Keiichi either. Mion and Shion both liked him, heck even granny(kinda) and Mion/shion-mommy like him, so there was no real danger from the Sonozaki part of that triangle to begin with.

Rika is on a "who cares" level anyway, and the major seems to like K1 well enough too.

So yeah, it was mainly Shion getting panic and forgetting key elements.

So....If Satoko die before Rika, Satoko will be transferred to the world where Rika doesn't exist. I guess it doesn't really matter whether Rika will use the sword on her or not.

And.......yep, it's all acting. Satoko told her uncle that she's being bullied by entire village while tricking to her friends to believe that she's being bullied by her uncle.

Can Satoko become even more cartoonishly evil? Well, I'm pretty sure we'll see exactly that happen next week again.

You know, you can question the whole story as much as you want here, but at least Satoko is a pretty entertaining mastermind.

I can't believe I'm saying it but damn I feel bad for Teppei now.

For me though, I have this suspicion that Rika was probably already starting to think Satoko had a hand in this during that very distinct and oddly specific talk at the shrine.

At this point I feel the only thing that would make this overly long "mastermind scheme" feel worth it to me is if we get another Saikoroshi "beating up Satoko with a chair" scene. Clearly wasn't a good enough lesson and it needs another round.
