OK, being the resident Monster pimp, I just have to mention it since it actually fits the requirements:
Dark Enviromented - hell, yes. Male protagonists - yes, male protagonist and male antagonist, too; no cuteness, no fanservice. Violent but not too violent - alot of people die but the anime doesn't revel in the violence. More oriented through psycological drama (not a requirement) or a really catchy storyline - what about having both a storyline with a lot of twists and psychological depth of the characters? Also, you may try Speed Grapher.

how about Now and Then, Here and There?
The artwork may look kiddy and the first episode may give off that impression, but the show overall definitely is not. I mean it deals with child soldiers and other mature issues like rape, war, etc. so it's not exactly going to be very pleasant viewing. And it has a rather gritty setting, a harsh desert ruled by a maniacal tyrant. It's also a very emotionally powerful show. I don't know if I'd say it's a psychological show, but nonetheless it is very dramatic and well-paced. Violence? It's a bit brutal at times, but it's not particularly graphic, but it is very effectively used to enhance the story as opposed to being violent for the sake of being violent. Great soundtrack too. |

hmm... it seems your list already full of those that i want to suggest, but probably Skullman and Desert Punk will meet your criteria. Both are quite dark and violent.

OK!
So, we finished Now and Then, Here and There. It was ok.. but.. not enough pixel violence :P. All the themes are shown in a very.. "unrelated" way. And with a villain like Hamdo, it's hard to take it seriously. Anyways, we got Wolf's Rain and we're loving it. It's gonna be over soon tho! MOAR SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!! |
