Most of all, you have to be disciplined and you have to save, even if you hate our current financial system. Because if you don't save, then you're guaranteed to end up with nothing.

No, I'm pretty sure it's the water. A bit of flailing around is harmless when it doesn't involve breathing water.

But non-pool swimming is different entirely

Singapore adults unfit, sleep deprived: survey

Quote:
Singapore scores just 59 out 100 for healthy living, according to the 2013 Healthy Living Index Survey that was announced on Thursday by insurance company AIA Singapore.

This ranks the bustling city-state at number 10 out of the 15 markets across the Asia-Pacific region which took part in the survey.

The 2013 AIA Healthy Living Index Survey was conducted with 10,200 adults and it studied their behaviour and health satisfaction.

Over 75 per cent of the total respondents mentioned that their health isn't as good as it was five years ago. The same percentage applies to the Singapore adults who had taken part in the survey; many of them had rated themselves at only 6.6 out 10

Among Singapore adults, who rate their health satisfaction at just 6.6 out of 10, the survey findings showed that many of them are sleep deprived, have bad posture and do not spend enough time exercising.

They spend about 30 hours lesser on exercising compared to others in the region — this is below the average.

However, they are spending more time engaging in online activities and logging on to social networking sites. Three in four Singapore adults have confessed to this and over 75 per cent of them said that they find it hard to break the addictive habit.

Furthermore, less than half of Singapore respondents said that they have gone for a health check-up in the last 12 months, said the survey.

However, Singapore adults are concerned with food safety and hazards from various types of pollution.

Three in four of them are anxious about food that may contain harmful ingredients mainly due to the food scandals that have been coming up in the region, and 70 per cent of the total Singapore respondents are concerned with incidence of poor air quality, mainly caused by the recent haze.
We are lonely people, aren't we?

Brooklyn, New York (Oct 28, Fri): Game over. Cats have won the Internet.

At least that was the conclusion among the many attendees of the Internet Cat Video Festival on Friday.

Decked out with cat ears and painted-on whiskers, they lined up around the block to do in a group what they already do in front of their computers: Watch amusing cat flicks. This time, there was beer and pierogi.

Cat videos have been so popular online that watching them has become synonymous with wasting time. There are tens of millions of cat videos on YouTube on any given day.

The star attendee of Brooklyn's video festiva was Lil Bub, a runty kitty who was born with "multitude of genetic anomalies which all add up to one of nature's happiest accidents", according to her website.

Lil Bub, it turns out, is a "perma-kitten", that is, a full-grown cat that has stayed small and kept kitten-like features.

It's hard to say why cats have proven far more popular than, say, dogs in the online video world.

Ms Neysa Smith, 22, who also works in advertising offered one theory: "Cats are the best animal ever. They are smarter than dogs."

Man keeps wife’s death under wraps for 35 days and treated her like she was still alive

Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — For 35 days, a contractor went about his chores while the corpse of his 42-year-old wife decomposed in the master bedroom of their double-storey house in Damai Impian here.

When friends of the family asked about her, he would give vague replies, never giving any hint something was not right.

Police said their 16-year-old son knew his mother, Lim Ah Di, had died but had given his father time to confront the reality of her death.

The macabre pretense of the 47-year-old man came to an end on Saturday when he went to the Alam Damai police station to say his wife had died from a heart attack on September 21.

The dark secret of the man, who often spoke to the corpse, shocked the police who found her body on the bed well-cleaned with fresh clothes, indicating that he changed her clothes regularly, and in a well-scented room, suggesting the room had been sprayed with perfume to minimise the stench of the decomposing body.

Police did not find any sign of foul play when they carried out forensic investigations in the house.

The bizarre case has shaken the neighbourhood where residents described the couple as a loving pair.

Kajang police chief ACP Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said the man was not arrested and that he was distraught that his wife of more than 20 years had died.

“He may be sent for psychiatric observation but will face the consequences of failing to report his wife’s death to the National Registration Department within 48 hours,” he said.

Ab Rashid said police had also interviewed neighbours and family members who described the contractor as a good and friendly man who was always seen with his family.

The statement of the 16-year-old son had also been recorded by police as part of their investigations.

Police believed the son knew that his mother had died on September 21 as she had complained of chest pains.

Initial investigations suggested Lim had died of heart attack.

^ poor husband, he loves his wife too much.

Man throws $500K in garbage so wife can't get it in divorce
Quote:
How far would you be willing to go to punish your soon-to-be ex? Think about what you'd do, then go several million steps past that and you'll be in Earl Ray Jones' neighborhood. The Colorado man claims that in May, he emptied his joint retirement and savings accounts, converting more than $500,000 in cash to gold before throwing it away in a dumpster — all so his wife couldn't have a penny of it. "We say that when people are divorcing, they enter a state of temporary insanity," Jones said during his deposition. "But on a scale of 1 to 10, this is my 10." He has records from an Arizona precious-metals dealer proving that he did convert the cash, but not everyone believes that he tossed it all in the trash. Jones is sticking to his story, though. "Damn right, I did [it]," he swore.
