Episode 1
Decent start. Tsukushi is portrayed as an underdog already and somewhat timid for a character. On the other hand, Jin is the cool type of guy. I like the pacing so far, it introduces some of the main characters while establishing the themes and sports gimmicks. Seriously though, I hope they adapt Tsukushi's progress as a character and soccer player because so far, he's quite a klutz on the field. On the other hand, I do admire his spirit. 24 episodes, not sure how much they will adapt but this show has a ton of potential imo. In regards with the character designs, the blushing part is somewhat distracting.

Episode 1
At first I thought that Kazama was that super cool senpai who is graduating this year and wants to win. Turns out he's a first year and the school already has a good reputation and has probably been winning a lot recently. Tsukushi is quite the loser. He probably touched a football for the first time during that futsal match and now he's so interested in football that he wants to join the school's team despite being told that the training would be too tough for him. Lol he was getting beat up quite literally with the ball. But he was determined enough to win the game for his side. And that very determination is what is helping him carry on with football. Although it is questionable that he is doing so much for a game he just played for the first time the other day. I seriously doubt he's doing it to make Kazama happy or anything. It would be more understandable if he had played football before too but stopped for some reason and then was brought back into the game after a billion years and now wants to continue playing. But so far, he's been shown to have no past meeting with a football. Now Tsukushi will somehow join the team and become good enough to make it into the playing side. Was a pretty okay episode. The football action in the first couple of minutes was pretty cool. Tsukushi however, isn't that interesting a kid which isn't good because he's supposed to be the MC. The show will probably focus on him growing and helping his team solve their issues or something just by seeing his determination or whatever. Sayurin was kinda cute and this show needs more of her. But we won't get more of her because she's just the osananajimi and doesn't have a big role. She isn’t even Tsukushi's moral support so far. |

I like the first episode. I think I'll like this series. But my one overall thought throughout the whole first ep is...how the world is Tsukushi still alive? Looking forward to seeing him grow!
At first I thought Kazama will be the shady, sneaky type of guy that Tsukushi will have to look out for but turns out he's become a good buddy. ...ah, but the "bromance" is strong in this one. I can see the fushoji sneaking around the bushes already.

Did any of you watch Baby Steps? I remember the MC was terrible at first but became determined to get better. He took a very methodical approach in learning and eventually became one of the top players. Could we see something similar here? For me, the quicker the klutziness goes away, the better it is viewing wise.
The one thing I didn't buy was when the friend realized the MC was "absolutely incredible". Like really? You got that from some first timer putting in a stupid amount of effort? Quantity should not override quality. |

Seriously, I'll give this series a good shot here. I just hope the MC will lose that clumsiness quickly as we get into the real thing. |

Out of curiosity after watching episode 1, I checked out 2 volumes of the manga and I think it's just way inferior compared to Baby Steps and shouldn't even be compared to it.
Spoiler for general impression without giving away the plot:
Well, despite my criticisms, I still like it enough and will continue reading and watching the series with my mouth shut after this. |
