Question Relative Shortcuts...How?

So I've got my a folder on my Jumpdrive, and all my apps (mplayer, vdubmod, etc.) are in it.

I want to be able to open the programs without going into the folder every time, so I put shortcuts to them in the main directory.

But every time I stick the jumpdrive into a different computer it maps it to the E:\ or F:\ or G:\ drive.
So when I try to use the shortcut it doesn't work, because it targets the E:\ drive and the jumpdrive is now the F:\ drive.
And so on.

I have tried deleting parts of the address in the shortcut's properties, but Windows declares the address "not valid".

SO how can I create shortcuts that will properly link to the program regardless of what drive its mapped to?

You could use batch files instead of shortcuts if you like. Just make a text file and put the relative path (IE virtualdub\virtualdub.exe) and save as a .bat

You could try assgining Z has a letter to your USB key on every computer you use.

Normally, anytime you switch it, it should still assign Z has the letter to the key.
