Didn't Miyuki had her own spin off? So while we might be left to starve now, but we at least know that there is an oasis for us over there, somewhere Sadly I can't check to original so I can't search which chapters are narrated from Miyuki's perspective.

BTW, Vol 1 ~ 5 have sold over a million. That means that sales numbers have roughly doubled in something like 5 months. Or something.

Well, they are going to college and the series is supposedly mostly focused on the magic high school. I doubt that they'll be written out of the story, but it's not like they will be mentioned every chapter or something (which is what has happened to this point). On the other side of the coin, new characters are going to come later want it or not. That's one of the reasons of why I never thought of the Kaichou as the end girl for Tatsuya (if there is going to be such a thing).

Also, considering the one-sidedly rivalry that the guy from the 10th family has with Tatsuya, I'd figure that something really big is going to happen before they graduate..... There is no way that that is going to end without a fight, specially when Tatsuya apparently labeled him as the guy that would be the hardest for him to take out within school (meaning, with his restrictions on, probably).

I don't believe he means without restrictions. From what I read, he feels he wouldn't be able to guarantee victory with Ichijou in a real life battle situation. The problem is that the biggest restriction he has is Material Burst which is active no matter what. It's not something that can be used in battle. Mist Dispersion would probably be usable and I believe that's his human degradation magic. Against Ichijou, that would probably be one of the deciding factors.

When it comes to Juumonji, that's a different story. Juumonji's incomplete Phalanx still follows the principles in that once a barrier is destroyed, the one behind it takes its' place. But it's not such a simple barrier. Each layer randomly defends against different systems in magic, so Tatsuya can't just shoot through them all. When it comes to Juumonji, he really doesn't have much choice other than to destroy barriers until Juumonji runs out. The problem with that is the fact that Juumonji has a lot of stamina (actually, nothing has been said about it yet. He hasn't reached any kind of limit so far). While Tatsuya may possibly have more, his Gram spells require a ton of magic. Whether he has restrictions or not, he still has to get past the barriers.

Well there is always his ninjutsu(?) teacher...but I think that it really does depend on the way he will be taking him on, cuz lets not forget he can still read the magic that Juumonji uses (probably, I have no idea about tht though) so he can might be able to form some sort of loophole within his layers or something

He could beat his teacher in an all out fight. It's just that without magic his teacher's hand to hand combat is superior.

For me, I would give the clear edge to Tatsuya based on his ninjitsu, unlimited stamina, real-life military experience, combat strategy, and faster casting speed.

If there's one clear, clear advantage, it's Tatsuya physical combat skills. One of the problems with the current magic system is that it promotes raw magic power over overall combat ability (magic+physical martial arts). I've always viewed the likes of Hattori, Ichijou, and Juumonji is this category. Hattori doesn't care, Ichijou looks down upon the traditional arts, and even Juumonji, who appreciates the traditional arts, doesn't actually know them. By comparison, Kazama should clearly be stronger than the aforementioned 3 despite being a B Rank magician because of his overall combat ability. In Hattori's fight, Tatsuya didn't even need to reveal ANY of his true magic ability and still easily defeated Hattori with his superior combat ability+ninjitsu.

For Ichijou, it's pretty clear cut to me. In their fight, Ichijou's natural instincts told him to get the hell out of the way. And as good as Ichijou is in combat, he actually looks down upon the old arts such as ninjitsu. As such, I'm led to believe that Tatsuya should be able to thoroughly outmaneuver Ichijou physically (in the same manner Tatsuya ran circles around Hattori). Also, if it really became a traditional magic battle of seeing who can release their killing magic faster, the clear edge should go to Tatsuya since he can directly access his natural magic -restoration and disintegration- from his memory. How fast is Tatsuya? Well, his restoration happened so quick that no one noticed it. The two military officers only knew because they knew of his ability beforehand. They then naturally deduced that the ability activated (otherwise Tatsuya should be out of commission). I have a hard time believing that Ichijou's Explosion magic that can be followed is anywhere as fast as the magic that is so fast that no one knew it happened.

Juumonji offers a different challenge. He has the Phalanx and though Tatsuya recognizes that ability as a natural enemy, Tatsuya should be able to win the battle of stamina, which he inherited from his father.

Now, if it were to be a "restricted" battle where Tatsuya only has access to a portion of his Psions (i.e. with Miyuki's restriction on) AND he has to use the high energy expenditure Gram Dispersion and Demolition, then Tatsuya may run out of gas first. However if there are no restrictions and he can use his Demon Right or Mist Dispersion, which don't seem to use anywhere as much energy, then Tatsuya should be able to clearly win the battle of endurance.

If anyone thinks teleportation is an ability that sounds normal, think again! It's practically impossible to teleport anything because the energy require to break down object, transfer them to another place and reassembling them again is far more than the energy the sun can provide. Also, teleport human meaning that we have to teleport any organisms living inside us, like bacteria and parasites, and there are over billion of bacterias in our intestines.

Miyuki maybe able to freeze anything including people mind, but I doubt she can truly freeze time. Well, since nothing inside her freeze barrier moves then I guess it's about the same as freezing time.

What would be more "uberhax" would be the ability to fold space. Not only does it provide all the teleportation abilities without having to decompose and re-build anything. Also it has time implications due to space time physics.

On a side note if the manga is monthly I wonder how many years it will take for it to catch up? Especially as the technical explanations will most likely take a lot of panel space? Seems weird how its monthly, seems to have enough content, especially explaining the 'physics', to be a weekly series easily?

They can use images for the explanations, so it's easier to handle without the use of a lot of panel space. Also, a lot of the explanations are just unnecessary. I'm also curious how long the series will last. I'd give it a year a volume at the pace it's going at, and probably it will end with the second arc, since it's slow going anyway.

I hope it lasts longer than the second arc, as I find it a refreshing read. I wonder if it gains popularity will a magazine/publisher like shounen pick it up? If it does could that potentially increase its run time?

Nope, they won't pick this up because they usually deal with original stories and not adaptations.

Plus there are already 2 version of mahouka in manga. The adapted from the novel which is tatsuya's pov and the new one which is miyuki's pov.
