I'm glad that Shin Sekai Yori will cover the life of Saki and friends up through the age of 26, because then she'll be older than me and I won't have to feel dirty for being attracted to her.

A person at another forum said that he thinks Saki is repressing a violent nature. What do you fellows think?

Well... I don't quite understand what's going on, but based on Episode 4, it seems she tried something back at the temple with the old priest.
Don't know if it's real, a nightmare or if she did that on purpose...

I figured that was part of the test -- before you let the kids graduate elementary school, gotta make sure the conditioning works -- and they probably blocked the memory afterwards.

That was to check to see if the feedback was working. The one that kicks in if you try to hurt or kill another human.

She does, but their society was designed to foster promiscuity, so she would sleep with anyone and everyone. I'm pretty sure it's Shun she actually has feelings for.

She has feelings for Shun, but she almost had sex with Satoru because they have been trained (psychologically) to have sex when under emotional pressure.

Having sex like monkeys might seem like fun () but it also means that sex gets disconnected from the concept of romance, and that kinda sucks.

I know I know, I'm a party pooper. Sorry about that. lol

I think the prospect of having threesomes with Saki and Maria would make everything all better agree with you, though. One thing I'll be interested in seeing throughout the story is the effect that this particular aspect of their society has upon the characters, and see which members of the leading five embrace it and which ones reject it.

I cthink the fact that Saki and Satoru are always so antagonistic, at least on the surface, makes this fact seem so jarring.

Does the promiscuity also apply to married people? I mean thinking about that gives me headaches.

It is supposed to feel jarring, horribly jarring. It shows how different their world is from ours.

I'm always impressed when shows are able to convey the intended effect, it's a mark of a good show. It also makes it harder to watch without cringing but not in a bad way.

They said they were based on Bonobo, so it shouldn't be surprising, those things say hi to each other by having sex. Sex is no longer exclusive to relationships in their society.

It works too, unlike other chimps, Bonobo's have absolutely no violence in their society.

I'm AMAZED that monogamy even survived as a concept in this world. This sounds just like the kind of conditions one might expect to see in Harem formation, if sexual inhibitions are removed.

If anything, I think the author didn't go far enough with his idea, since I'd imagine even the Monogomatic norm would have collapsed in such a society long ago, leading to very different family structures and social networks.

But since I like Satoru and Saki together I choose to believe that they would have ended up together either way

From my limited knowledge and understanding, Saki admires Satoru and cynically put, would do anything to become his first priority. That of course in a liberated environment, does not mean that she wouldn't offer her body to the rest of the people she likes for their common satisfaction... both of these are in accordance to that chimpanzee social structure, and unlike inherently violent and selfish animals like wolves and men.
