I'm fairly certain the artbook was never translated, however the info in it was incorporated into the Last Exile wiki: http://lastexile.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

There is a subset of viewers who's life mission is to make this show about fanservice because they are desperately looking for any reason they can latch on to in order to keep the sanctity of the first Last Exile on its pedestal through their rose-colored nostalgia goggles.

I really love the second episode! It was great: from the music to the plot... I particularly love the role Dio is playing in this series. I'm glad they didn't reintroduce him just please previous fans with a crappy role. His flying skills are just amazing as ever, such as the ever awesome immelmann turn. I am also in love with the design of the eyes of those who are Guild-like (ie Dio, Alauda & Luscinia). The bloodline of these people and their role in this Earth society is one that interests me a lot.
Another thing that fascinates me is the design of the environments, particularly those of the bridges in the battleships and even the throne room for the King of Turan; featuring very vast spans of glassed domes. Although architecturally it makes no sense (then again, it is a series about steam powered flying battleships), it is still very beautiful non the less. Although initially I was wary of the cast of too many females, I actually really like Fam and Giselle who, in my opinion, don't actually come out as that loli. Nor do I think that fanservice has been all that apparent in these past two episodes... Spoiler for minor ones:

And Dio was the reason I started flipping out over the new series when he was announced. To be honest I didn't care originally as long as he was just there and being Dio (and giving me more in-depth answers to how he recovered from the first series [SHAKESFIST]), but after seeing the OP and his involvement in episode 2 I'm really REALLY intrigued to see what they do with him in this series.

We need a release date for the first of hopefully at least another 2 OSTs (like the first series)! Yeah, Dio's already delivering in such a short time. (I'm already getting hooked on the new characters too) Quote:
I'm not counting on it and it probably won't happen since the video releases happen so much faster these days (I think most these new fall shows already have their first Japanese BDs dated already), but it would be wonderful if they could fix it up for the BD release. Episode 2 :
Another great episode ! It's the anime of the season for me. 9/10. I already like all the character. Dio, of course, but I like Fam, her copilot and the two princess too. But what I want really now is : Will we see Claus and Lavy once again ? It seems that Al, Tatiana and Alister will be back (from the ending). So I really hope it will be the case for Claus and Lavy too !! I want Claud to fly with Fam |

Wow didn't expect to see Exile so soon, even Dio was surprised. So is Lily like Al? Don't see another reason for how she was able to start Exile. Pretty tough for Millia to deal with all of that. Lol at her trying to shoot the Federation guy.

So, here's my guess of what's going on so far:
* Luskinia (and Alauda) were members of a Guild that hadn't forgotten their task as the custodians of humanity's progress and future. * They Earth healed and signaled all the Guilds on the various Presters that hadn't forgotten their mission it was safe to return. These Presters began returning humans to Earth. * Minor wars probably started up as they are wont to do between people of different cultures/societies. * Luskinia decides he's going to unite humanity under one flag to eliminate wars, as he sees it all as an affront to the sacred duty the Guild was given over all these hundreds of years. So, he takes power of one of the strongest countries and starts his world conquest plan. See, he's really a good guy beneath that cold exterior. The six Exiles would hint at there at least being six (or five, good point Kanon) different Prester's worth of people on Earth. I say at least, because we also saw the Exile that is presumably from the first series in Episode One coming in for a landing. So, that's at least one Exile that isn't parked in orbit disguised as a piece of the moon. A few other thoughts: * Apparently, the former Empress of Ades (Farahnaz) was a more peaceful soul and had a calming effect on our resident Hitler-figure (Luskinia). * It's interesting that these people on Earth should have some knowledge of Exiles, but were still stupid enough to attack it, causing its self defense program to annihilate them. Guess even the Guilds that kept to their mission also kept their people in the dark when it came to high technology like the Exile. To be fair, the Guilds were supposed to do just that. * I wonder if we're getting more foreshadowing here in Episode Two concerning Fam's heritage when she remarks: "Father huh? Wouldn't it be great if we could all run away together?" * Liliana gets +10 points for her commanding presence and courage assaulting the Ades fleet. She gets -20 points for immediately surrendering her entire country at the hint that her sister might be hurt. * Alauda's pet name he has for Luskinia: Luskea. Wonder when the man on man fanart is gonna start with these two, similar to what we saw with Dio/Luciola? * The music and aerial battle was great. It's a very different mood from the first series, and while the first one was probably a little more realistic with all its quiets and long drawn out sequences (more Hunt for Red October than Star Wars), I very much prefer these orchestrated, dramatized affairs we're seeing here in terms of putting a big grin on my face. * I wonder if the Lasas crashed into the water and if there goes Fam's dream of naming a battleship after herself? * No preview this time! Spoiler for Lastly, Dio fanart from fox.cc on pixiv:

Wow! So much happened in episode 2! I didn't expect the show to this fast-paced. I assume it will slow down soon enough if it's true that this season is 2 cour.
So, the moons were Exile ships and not colonies after all. Do we know how many Prester worlds were created? There are at the very least five Exiles (or six depending on whether the moon's still up there), which indicates that the people from that much Presters started migrating back to earth. The people from Turan were from one of those, and Luscina's goal is to wipe all the nations built by Presters off the face of the earth, as he feels people who abandoned it when it was in bad shape are not worthy to come back (he's probably also afraid they'll just nearly destroy it again). Pretty smart to use the Exile in order to accomplish that. I surmised earlier that Alvis might come back as the Exile's pilot now, and the events of this episode comforted me that will most likely be the case. What better than an Exile to counter another Exile? I'm liking this premise. This show just might live up to its predecessor!!

So much happened this episode, so I'm kind of overwhelmed. After reading the two above posts, I think I vaguely understand the continuity from last season to this one. I'll just say that I thought the music direction was excellent. A different mood from LE1, but still pretty effective nonetheless.
This is already tied with Fate Zero for my favorite of the season and I really hope the rumor about it being 2-cour turns out to be true. |
