[Anime] Episode 47: Homunculus Sealed

Just one word for this ep...intense...

...this was all about Ed's desperate attempts to destroy Sloth, with even Al trying to stop him at one point. Ed's learned the alchemy from Dante's mansion that purges the PS from the Homunculus and trapped Sloth in it. We got to see how Sloth was created in detail, the bloody mess that Ed and Al created made it's way (somehow) to Dante and she fed it the PS and named her.

We got to see little Wrath running away from the Gate (first to naked Izumi, then she changed into Sloth...hmm) as he came back to life after Lust's head shot.

I thought Al wouldn't be able to stand seeing Sloth being hurt and he threw away Trisha's bone which unfortunately Wrath found and absorbed into his own body.

Lust was amazing in this episode joining Ed trying to kill Sloth and then kicking the crap out of Wrath as he tried to save her. Unfortunately, Lust fell foul of the same alchemy that Ed used against Sloth and that little shit Wrath killed her (or so it seems).

Wrath then did something amazingly stupid and merged with Sloth to try and protect her from Ed, which of course paralysed her but she's still not totally destroyed. I wasn't sure of the method Ed was using to finish her off, was he boiling her alive?

Anyway at the end Winry turned up, which has got to be Envy of course.

Next ep: The end of Sloth for sure, more Izumi and the return of the Tringham Brothers !?!

I think ed used on sloth the same kind of alchemy that kimblee use.

I'm disappointed to see lust dying , she had become a cool character (even if she killed a lot of people before)

At the end winry just popped out of nowhere, and it seems that izumi is joining the battle too, it's a bit Deus ex machina for me o_o. I'm a little worried, there's only 4 episodes left, how are they going to fit the demises of dante,pride,envy,gluttony in such little time without rushing things ?

inconstistencies :

-after having trapped sloth in the sealing circle, ed throws scar's brother's pendant at lust, and it doesn't have any effect on her !!! later when wrath does the same thing she is paralyzed !!!

-we see "messed" sloth moving out of elric's house and dante feeding it with red stones. didn't ed said that he burnt the failed result of his human transmutation in early episodes ?

That's what happens when the Anime team dont start to change the script of the Anime untill they are close to catching up to the manga :P

Or Ed could have just been telling himself that lie all along and believing it. The sloth issue was decided in the anime since the beginning. Since Juliette Dougulas appears really really early. It's really obvious that Ed never destroyed the body, even in the early flashbacks. He wouldn't have been able to given the timeframe. His answer to "What did you do to the creature" was given so he didn't have to think about the consequences. He pretty much admitted that when he said to Sloth that he's been deliberately ignoring the truth.

ho my memory is bad, i watched again ep 29 and al says that when he woke up the thing that should have been their mom wasn't there, sorry !

I wonder if Lust is acually dead? you see her lying there but she doens't dissapear so it's hard to tell.

And I wonder if Sloth is actually destoryed or just sealed like Greed was. I can't tell if that info was released or not because I don't understand a lot of Japanese.

With so few episodes left I wonder how they are going to wrap this up ;-; I don't want it to end ;-;

I also believe that Winry is Envy in the preview, I mean she would have had to pop out of no where...which is stupid. The title "Farewell" for the next episode is to much suspence ;-; godddddd I'm going nuts lol

That was a bit odd but...

...she swatted it aside quickly even though Ed wasn't being hostile, so I geuss it didn't have the same effect. But it was also inconsistent of her to be so casual about letting something that important be cast aside. Especially with Sloth and Wrath still running around. Ultimately that lack of concern killed her...

Up to this episode I was quite confident that BONES could wrap things up but...

...other than Lust 'dying', nothing really happened to progress the plot. Sloth is probably going to die the next episode but with only 4 remaining the preview doesn't inspire confidence.

Just why are the Tringham brothers returning at this stage, what relevance do they have to the conclusion of the story?

Perhaps Wrath can be de-humonculized by Ed and Izumi, now that he's without Sloth he could potentially be 'saved'. That would be a happy ending for at least one of the main characters...

Tringham brothers are the ones whu assumed the elric's name..and created the proto PS rite??..

Yeah, they pretended to be the Elrics but they didn't create the proto PS, they were working on a method to crystalize it using plants as I recall. Perhaps they're still pretending to be the Elrics ...

well they did successfully crystallized some proto PS, the older brother even used one to fight against Ed. Also they made some fancy device to utilize the red water directly for alchemy I think...

one would wonder how there can be a stream of red water underground that town? Isn't the red water actually made from people's lives? So is that underground flow of red water natural or artificially created?

Well, if it is either natural or artificial I wonder how can it contain humans too. Unless it's a natural by-product of human decay and crystalizing it creates the proto-PS which has some powerful properties but not as potent as sacrificed souls, whose lives are 'contained' within the PS in the process. The red water was certainly abdundant, perhaps the vats of it in Lab 5 came from Xenotime in the first place.

I've always assumed those stone fed to the Humonculus must be PS to contained lives that they can trade upon each death. If it was red water, surely it wouldn't be powerful enough to enable them to escape the Gate.

I still can't figure out how the Tringhams can be involved at this late stage, unless there's something we're missing...

Well it's not CERTAIN that lust is dead. Also she barfed up quite abit of ps... When wrath raised his arm...sword we did not see him slash it down on her only a woosh sound. Plus there was no sign of blood?? Hopefully she lives her character was well made and would be a great disappointment to the Lust fans..

Though original Japanese title lacks a subject, in this case "Homunculus Fuuin" means "seal Homunculus" . Not Homunclusus do, but be done.

Yeah I felt that too. Wrath was really shocked and confused about the entire "now I can die just like humans" thing. He seemed more fascinated and distracted by Lust's apparent acceptance of her own mortality than the act of killing her. We do see him raise the swordarm but I definitely felt he dropped it rather than sliced her. For a violent show like FMA, when blood is missing something is definitely amiss. It felt more like Lust collapsed before he could kill her from the exhaustion of spitting out all the stones. I really hope she's still alive... ^^;

It does seem strange that Winry is there, but I'm not too sure if it's envy -_-. And in the entire 47 episodes, they never really explained why every single homonculus has the funky tattoo -_- Considering Wrath has it when he came through the gate, does the gate have its own funky brand symbol?
