Par the course for a Kirara work, this series has a Houkago Teibou Nisshi meets Yuru Camp meets Tamayura meets Koisuru Asteroid feel to it. While it's early to tell, combining fishing with moving forwards could be an interesting mix, and I'm interested to see how a Kirara work approaches what Tamayura had done so well a decade earlier. Further to this, because this is a Kirara work, the psychoanalysis should be checked at the door – Kirara series don't tend to surprise too much in that area, and we don't need folks trying to apply psychological models to things in a genre that's pretty direct and consistent with its characterisation.

Anyway, I liked it. Seems like a pretty standard Kirara show, and I like those. One thing I found odd was Hiyori taking on her step-father's name. Given how much she loved her dad, I thought she would want to keep her last name.

Wasn't there already a Kirara anime about fishing? All of their manga are already so similar, I thought they'd prevent authors from stealing each other's "This makes my manga different (<-lol)" gimmick
Also, I know someone whose arm got hooked before on accident, and it left a scar. So yeah, let's cast a line at a person on purpose. Great.

Well that got to be some bomb that both dropped on Hiyori and Koharu that there going to be sisters just like that you think they would introduce them before they get married
Hiyori got some skill with that fly fishing pole

If nothing else I did like the handling Hiyori's discomfort. That's a tough situation and doesn't feel like this sort of thing gets covered regularly for anime. Plenty of single parent or no parent situations. But the actual discomfort that can exist for two families merging is legitimate. All the harder since Hiyori did love her weird dad and has to face things being lost. Even if it wasn't practical to leave that room as it was.
In terms of taking on the new family name I'm not surprised she did that. Hiyori seems like the type to try and make the smallest disruptions possible. Even if I don't think there'd be a huge issue from the family if she did keep her father's last name I could see her not pushing that. Going with the flow as much as possible. Same reason she didn't put up a fight about the fate of that room.

One part Yuru Camp, one part Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater, and one part Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House. Trouble is, I liked all three of those better. But it's only the first episode. Plenty of time for this show to grow on me.

I'm not expecting this series to surpass some of the giants that came before it, but if this one can create a strong story of discovery with a healthy it of enjoying food, I'll be content

Not every episode needs to be pedal-to-the-metal intensity. This second episode is about introducing one new character of several and creating the groundwork for Hiyori's growth, after all.
