. Perhaps she can be trusted to a point - but not relied on absolutely. I admit freely that I only know of Bernkastel right now what I have seen of her in the wikipedia article and episode 5 of the Umineko anime.

Something to consider about Bernkastel, perhaps

the same accusation that was brought against Furude Rika in the third season of Higurashi can be brought against her: both of them allowed the cycle of tragedies in Hiinamizawa to continue. Rika could have stopped time/space-hopping and starting the cycle off again and again. Bernkastel could have conceded defeat to Lambdadelta. Rika didn't because she hoped for a positive outcome for once, and she gave her all for a turn to the positive. Can the same be said for Bernkastel, who was playing a witch's game?

Some poeple hates bernkastel because she made Ange's and Eva(s life horrible. She took ange and eva's smiles forever. Ange could live with eva who lost her daughter and be a family as Battler and the others didn't return. But Bern told ange to never smile, be happy , or loving someone else than her parents and waiting for bern to do a miracle.

But what poeple forget, is that , that's Beatrice wish , she asked Bernkastel to do this to fit her role more.

" Is that enough beato?
I do fit my role now."

That is why i hate Beato more than Bern for myself
And if bern didn't do that, Battler would lost at EP4
