Then they wouldn't have shown Chieri in a ponytail in the first place during s1. Were we (read, I) just too dumb to notice?

From parts on season 1, we can already see Nagisa dislike the idea of competition between the AKB00 members, seeing them more as teammates than rivals, or at least rivals that are much more worried about fighting together than trying to get one over each other. Having a ranking means you're deciding who is better than who, a notion she dislikes. She doesn't want to be ranked too low as she wants to see her effort on being on the team recognized, but at the same time she feels like getting a better rank than someone else would be like hurting them.

That's something Chieri and Nagisa were on opposite sides of the fence, but thought season 1, both got more around the middle. Chieri herself comments that on episode 14, about how she learned they have to work together. Nagisa too improved her vision that was too naive to the point she says she was happy Yuuko considered her a rival (in that case she mentioned all the kenkyusei also as rivals).

The elections is like a higher level of what she dislikes, but Nagisa already been growing regarding that on those two episodes. On episode one she was able to get the example of Yuuko, that is very competitive, but at the same time is a great teammate that wouldn't think twice before risking her life to save one of her own. Also in this episode, seeing Acchan helped her too, although it doesn't seems Nagisa got the full meaning I got from that video which is something she needs to realize imo. Acchan video shows that being better than others can have positive effects on them, rather than the negative ones Nagisa fears. It can inspire others to better themselves, following the example of the winner.

For some reason, the only song that seems appropriate to me for AKB rescues is the one they used during the rescue in episode 2. Um... *looks it up* AKB Sanjou! For some reason I just feel that needs to be sung during dramatic rescues. Perhaps because it's what was used the first time they did one.

On a completely unrelated note to anything else, I forgot to mention before, I find both the new OP and the new ED to be less exciting than the original ones. Admittedly that's often the case with second season OP and EDs. Perhaps they'll grow on me.

Also, IRL, in her first elections last year, Karen Iwata (Nagisa) wasn't able to secure any of the 64 top spots, unlike some of her No Name fellows who made it into the list, so this episode is more likely personal for her.

Sounds fitting, but wouldn't it be a little repetitive since Chieri was also the one who needed the most rescuing that time? It would be nice to see Nagisa actually saving her on her own, though.

Funny, I forgot to mention that too. The new OP is nothing spectacular, but I'm already liking the new ED, the music, while not as intense this time, is really good and could definetly be used as an insert song for a dramatic moment. I also like the literal curtain close at the end, it has such a nice feel to it. Also, space cubes everywhere

This second season is having a lot of dumb moments so far....; I honestly could not believe the stuff they did with Mimori in this episode!

I'd expect that from an ecchi harem...but not from AKB0048. That was pretty stupid and in bad taste.

Tsubasa telling the girls the shows were crap redeemed the episode a little. It's good to have an anime character voice your own opinion.

I'm disappointed in the OP too....but I didn't expect it to be better (or as good) than the first OP; they hardly ever are.

Mimori's obviously portrayed as a dead ringer for Kasai Tomomi, so she gotta show her sexiness in silly ways, it's part of the character. Remember Sayaka compared her to Tomomi in the first season? Well, now it's finally showing....

I noticed, just didn't care. To me it's essentially Nise to a much smaller degree, the fanservice hasn't taken away or affected anything that makes the series awesome (music, color, Chieri, etc), so there's no reason to complain.
